Carl Rove is wrong about a lot of things.
Wisdom does not originate in DC. If we are lucky, some of it seeps in there by accident.
Rove is not the worst thing to come to DC. Obama is the worst thing to come to DC in the nations history. And he brought great evil with him. Like a cancer it will have to be surgically removed if the nation survives.

Many replies since I walked away from the keyboard but I want to respond specifically to your post
224 as I think there are two important points to make in response.
"Criminal gangs" is not a helpful term. While I understand and appreciate your points with respect to chaos and banditry and moral character in the context of the moral underpinnings of an armed insurrection, I'm not looking specifically to motorcycle clubs or street gangs or organized crime as reservoirs of shadow state officers or officials.
It is as you put it: they have a place on the strategy map, and most importantly because of that
they have a vote. Where is that vote going to go? The worst of evil men will not cease being evil simply because chaotic restructuring of the social order is commanded by men of good character and conscience.
The enemy has a vote, and plans do not survive contact with the enemy. These being true principles, it is with a clear appreciation of roles and realities that we must have the basis for reformation of the State.
As another poster put it very well (I am paraphrasing) - nothing in our Constitution specifies these rights are reserved to people we like.
That said, my sincere condolences on the loss of your son and respect to the struggle you went through for acknowledgment of wrongdoing. It is bitter sometimes to drag accountability out of human beings, and to institutionally preserve lessons learned from strayed morality.
That is part and parcel of why the nation is where it is. People forget, and ingrained laziness combine with profligate wealth to create complacent cruelty and greed.
Last... while I'm speaking with a pragmatic voice, and from a perspective of real world reality (you do need the people who are willing to shoot back) I also acknowledge the grave importance of the voice you raise for moral character of the patriot.
It is difficult to balance the dream of our free Republic with the reality of men and power.
Rome was no different.

Care to share specifically why the decent motorcycle clubs cannot refer to themselves as motorcycle clubs?
If you have to ask how much it costs you cannot afford it.
The Way that can be grasped is not the true Way.
A is A.

Rove is not the worst thing to come to DC. Obama is the worst thing to come to DC in the nations history. And Obama GOT THERE because of mindsets like Rove's.
Respectfully, Obama is a symptom, not a cause. Obama could be killed tomorrow and another one would just take his place. Obama didn't create this in the less than seven years he's had power -- he simply thrived in an environment already created by others including Carl Rove and those Republicans who buy his so-called "pragmatic" false philosophy, and the NEXT "Obama" even if he/she is a Republican, is likely to do the same.
The CAUSE of symptoms like Obama, Clinton, Romney (a leftist registered as a Republican), pandering RINOs, etc. etc., is mindsets and "conventional wisdom" like Rove's.
OBAMA IS A SYMPTOM. The cause is what must be addressed, but way too many are focusing their anger and resentment on the symptom, when they should be focusing their passion and reason on discerning the CAUSE and I repeat -- Rove's myth that so very many Republicans/conservatives buy into whole-heartedly, that "Demography is destiny," is very much part of the CAUSE.
Until we as a united people accept the truth that MORALITY is destiny, the symptoms like Obama, Clinton, a leftist Supreme Court, etc., will not disappear.

Frankly, the Diderot quote can be boiled down to: Morality is destiny.

Two cents? I’d say about $200 worth.

I very much appreciate your condolences. Your words struck me deeply.
Thanks also for another very informative, thoughtful analysis.

You noted I put that part of the quote in bold red letters.
It was no highlighted in the original quote.
I’ve been told tht Diderot’s charge to the insurgents was directed to the US, not France.

You might find my response to a friend on twitter over the weekend interesting.
It is out of context, but she agreed totally with me.
“Nations die without the basic building blocks of family, moral values and honesty. Corruption of rule of law is the Klaxon alarm”
