In America today, anyone with a male child has to be especially vigilant. Their futures and their very minds can be destroyed one, horrifying minute.
Explain the "monster coming out of the closet" to your sons, and tell them the monster is a liar. Age of Consent is tricky. I was at Barnes and Noble yesterday and I read the libertarian magazine Reason (I used to subscribe to it in the 90s) and there was an article about a lady (a mom) who invited a few sex offenders to her house for dinner. One of the offender was a man - who was at the time 18 who fell in love with a 15 year old when they were both acting together.

Today, teens are being bombarded with sexual images (just watch Jerry Springer or Steve Wilkos someday) on tv, radio, or even at sporting events. Advertisers know sex sells, so unless we keep kids locked in a room, without any radio, tv or anything else, they'll see sex...this is a tough question, but should a 18 year old be labeled as a sex offender if he fell in love with a 15.

Personally, I favor what a lot of “red states” have for age-of-consent laws: 16 with a close-in-age exception reaching lower to avoid the legal idiocy of two 14 year olds “raping” each other. No opening for pedophiles (which would require an age-of-consent below puberty, really) nor even for ephebophiles, and it gets the benefits the British advocates of lowering age-of-consent are after.

This is red herring.
Most States and most countries have Age of Consent laws that except sex between like age minors (the age disparities range is usually 3 years). The lowest age of consent for minor-minor sex is, in most states, 12 or 13.

These laws DO NOT apply to adults having consensual sex with minors (except as noted above; 18 year olds with minors as young as 15, 19 year olds with minors as young as 16, 20 year olds with minors as old as 17).

Laws that aim to lower the age of consent without like-age provisions are NOT intended to protect children. They are intended for just the opposite.
