Looks like the Sun is forming a uterus! This transgender crap is totally out of control I tell ya!!!
...has move quite a distance, even.
Moved. ...need to take a break here. ;-)
Honestly a good X-class flare with around the same strength as the Carrington event I don’t think would be enough.
It would be enough to wipe communications, and a lot of electricity out. For maybe a few weeks, but probably not “all” of it, definitely not. Enough to get the power and basic things up before civilization could really fall. Yea, it would be tough. But I think we would come through it, maybe a few million less. Third World countries like Somalia would probably not be hurt too bad. It would be the civilized countries that rely more on technology hurt the hardest. Most casualties would be from environment, hot/cold, dehydration, and other human beings. Some casualties from failing tech but the hardest hit would be places like Las Vegas, Dubai, LA, places that rely on enough water. That’s where society goes first, and outward from there, accelerating per minute. But a complete and utter “fall of civilization” back to the stone-age scenario would have to be a strong enough flare to knock out everything, make ALL technology obsolete. Everything, that means all the manufacturing so that we can’t even lathe some screws. That would be a huge leap backward for mankind. Back to stone axes and spears for weapons for awhile.
But I wouldn’t worry about Sol. There are hundreds of millions of stars in our galaxy, if just one of the bigger one goes Super even on the opposite side of the disk then we could get a major EMP. If one of its poles were pointed kinda at us, we could be in for a major major dose of radiation that would come some years after the EMP and kill us all right when we were getting back on our feet.
It’s difficult to find reports of very weak areas in the magnetosphere, but it’s already been happening. I’m at well over 9,000 feet here, and we do wear hats and cover up before going outdoors.
Wow. I’m flattered that I’m included on this exclusive list. When the internet goes down, please be sure to ping me.
No need for concern.
Obamas golf cart and Teleprompters have been hardened to withstand a direct EMP strike.
dash dash dash dash dash dash dash
You say that as if it a good thing?
Add to Ping. thanks
Sorry, I was talking about our earth’s magnetosphere. I failed in presentation there. Have a look at the following, and do note that it includes some recent NOAA changes to previously established datasets (to show a stabilization in speed of movement) and an NOAA projection based on the revisions.

But the solar magnetograms are very interesting! Thanks! Will have a look at that.
On magnetic north, it hasn’t really been accurately located for several years, although there have been expeditions. ...too many field deformities and weaknesses. The ESA did get some good readings for maps with isogonic lines a while back, though, and found a dead spot and general weakness at the time in our Western Hemisphere as compared to the Eastern. The dead spot was somewhere in South America, IIRC.
I soon as I saw your ping I thought oh noooo the net’s down! So I logged on to see if it in fact was down and found your ping and....then...wait...am I logged on?
Are you OK?
See? There's a breakdown in communication already!
I just upgraded from tech to extra but don’t have
a HF rig yet. Hate missing these events.
73 anyway
If the internet isn’t working, how do we get your ping? Carrier pigeon?
Plagues, locusts, women doing housework again...
An' what da hell ya want me ta do about it?
Thanks Mad Dawgg, extra to APoD.
