“This ban, if passed, will have a more serious impact on businesses, though. Bars, restaurants, theaters and others lost business when smoking was banned, since smokers were feeling essentially ostracized. Vaping has allowed some of the smokers to not only kick the habit, but go out and take their trade back to those businesses. If this full ban goes into effect theyll be driven back into the shadows.”
Nonsense.
Bars/restaurants lost business for a short while but that quickly reversed. Theaters never lost business because of it.
And plenty of so-called "freedom-loving" conservatives who are more than happy to use the strong arm of the government to crack down on vices they don't like.
The "there oughta be a law!" crowd is represented on both sides of the political spectrum.
I believe that pot is now legal in NY. "Medicinal" pot certainly is.
I don't smoke it so I'm not up on the specifics.
Smoking pot indoors is legal in NY?
I believe that pot is now legal in NY.
No, only Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska have legalized: http://www.governing.com/gov-data/state-marijuana-laws-map-medical-recreational.html
"Medicinal" pot certainly is.
"Under legislation signed into law on Saturday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, patients with one of 10 diseases will be able to obtain non-smokeable versions of the drug. Officials chose to prohibit distribution of marijuana plant material in order discourage non-medical use." - http://nypost.com/2014/07/07/ny-becomes-23rd-state-to-allow-medical-marijuana/
No grounds to claim, "Pots OK, but no nicotine."
Thanks for the correction. Good info.
I'm also glad the smokeable stuff isn't legal.
I say if an American adult wants to assault his lungs with tobacco smoke or pot smoke, that's his right.
E-cigarettes are currently unregulated, putting New Yorkers at risk. This legislation would protect those who want to avoid secondhand exposure.
Yes, the Assembly Speaker actually said this. What a colossal pile of steaming poo poo.
I don’t want to ban smoking, I want to ban smokers.
If you try to stop them from smoking, they’ll chew and spit. They’re addicts. They’re compulsive. They aren’t the average of the large segment of society who used to smoke tobacco, they’re the last, concentrated, tempestuous cinder of that population. Reasonable smokers quit long, long ago. Tobacco addicts today are looking for a fight, and they’ll dump their ashtrays and bottles of spittle on you if you dare to defy them.
They can chew and smoke all they want, as long as they stay away from me
LOL! Well said.
Heaven forbid that thinking people would be expected to endure second-hand exposure to someone simulating the act of smoking a cigarette. Sadly, I fully expect e-cigarettes to be banned in less than a decade; perhaps much less.
