“In the Great Salad Bowl of diversity, whites are the iceberg lettuce. Adding more of us just takes away space for the “good stuff” of diversity.”

Too much white ain’t just right!

That even happens out here in BFE right now, today-people from the cities, or another state have vaca places on a few acres they can’t afford to use, and nothing is selling at any price thanks to Obama’s wonderful “recovery” that drove away the tourism of the snowbirds that was the major source of income-so they rent it out to keep it from falling down or being a place for vagrants to crash. An awful lot of those renters aren’t just packed up like sardines-they are also using the remoteness of this area to cook and sell meth there-they are almost always non-Latino Caucasians, too.

Hate to break it to you, but most of the people of the mideast are Caucasian i.e. white. Many people concerned about those matters hate to admit it, but that’s a fact. Arabs, Turks, Iranians, are all white. The ISIS savages murdering, slaughtering their way through the mideast are white. They still must be exterminated.

That is very, very interesting-thanks for the info. I do not remember ever having a liberal/democrat relative-I’m of Latino ancestry, from rural SW Texas.

The very few democrats around here are all non-Latino Caucasians-they are so few that this county has no organized democrat party-no democrats ever run for office in this county any more-last time was about 8 years ago.

The rest of the Caucasian population-which is pretty evenly divided between Latino and non-Latino-are staunch conservatives, Republican voting but rather more libertarian in thinking than some places, and everyone is armed-only liberal households do not have firearms, which is extremely foolish in a remote area-dialing 911 will get you help in 30-45 minutes if you are lucky-you are on your own till then.

Most of our ancestors came to Texas from Mexico in or before the early 19th century, so that is too long ago to know what party in Mexico they might have embraced, but I can make a good guess...

There are a few Indian/Pakistani and Black families here-also conservative and not unarmed.

My school was worried because more neighborhood kids are choosing the school. (Gr 6-12) in the past few years, it’s gone from less than 1% to about 7%, and about 26% of the incoming 6th graders are white.

I don’t see how this is a problem for diversity. All groups need to be represented if all groups all going to live together. And here’s the sickest part of it, the designation white includes the large influx of Middle Easterners, mwho are definitely in the cultural minority — and many of them are English language Learners, which actually means more money for the school. But they’re worried about numbers. Percentages. Crazy.

The people who are obsessed with race and the “right” quotas of race are insane.

I lived in SF for 10 years in the 70s-80s. The Mission was never all Hispanic. There were always plenty of whites and other races living there. I suspect what they are complaining about is that low income Hispanics can no longer afford to live there. Same with blacks in the Filmore district. The rent is too damned high!

As “white” as George Zimmerman?

In Mexico the big race divide is between the minority who are of European, and the majority who are part or wholly American Indian descent. They consider Indian and mestizos a separate race, hence Columbus Day is The Day of the Race (La Raza), because it was the start of the mixed race. “Hispanic” is clearly not a race. Filipinos are “Hispanic”, and obviously are not Euro, African or American Indian. Racially classifying people as “Hispanic” is absurd.

See FOR GREATER GLORY a Hollywood movie/DVD with Andy Garcia, Eva Longoria that shows the 1920s roots of the 3 political parties in Mexico.

In the movie, Andy Garcia is the libertarian ala President Fox. “Catorce” (fourteen) is the Mexican rancher social conservative. Most small businessmen of Mexican ancestry are Catorce wannabes.

Calling Hispanic/Latino a race has always been absurd-it is clearly an ethnic group, but that doesn’t fit with the liberal narrative-they seem to think every ethnic group is a “race”.

I don’t think there are any Latino families in Texas that are not mestizos, unless they came straight from Spain within the last 100 years and made no stops before they got here-DNA even shows that American Indians are/were not a race-they are either Caucasian or a mix of Asian and Caucasian-they are an ethnic group-but that is an inconvenient thing to suggest to elites in Mexico or anywhere else who want to be superior.

My ancestors came from the Spanish Pyrenees in the late 16th century-Basques, and even they were not ethnically pure from Roman times, at least. Remember when the right was accused of prejudice based on “racial purity”? The left isn’t so happy when someone points out that they are the ones doing that-and it is not even accurate, based on the scientific and genetic research-there are no “pure races” within recorded history, and long before...

So-called diversity is ONLY the White race in retreat.

Once the United States is populated by Hispanics and Blacks, and Whites are living in caves somewhere, while America’s Asian population has vanished, only then will America be “diverse.”

Most Hispanics will be in the cave, too-because the majority are Caucasian-Latino/Hispanic is an ethnic group-not a race-that is a fiction made up by liberals to sow divisiveness...

The Latino culture is being "bleached out." Have you ever read an article in the New York Times that called Latinos moving into a White neighborhood as the "browning out" of the area?

The Times tries to frame it in economic terms; the poor Hispanics pushed out by the rich White people. But when does the Times ever complain about poor Hispanics moving into housing in a White neighborhood and affecting property values? Never.

Newsmachete totally gets New York Times hypocrisy... Great read - thanks for posting.

Nobody complained when the Hispanics moved the bums out of the Mission District.

Excuse me, we weren't bums! I was born and raised in the Mission District of San Francisco. During the early 1950s, it was clean and a pretty good place to live. And it was a Republican city, had been for many decades. The main business streets of Mission Street and 24th Street were lined with fantastic retail stores and theaters. Within a couple blocks were several huge theaters with giant marquees showing top-name movies. In between movies were entertainment acts and raffles (you got two movies plus cartoons for one ticket). Stores had lunch counters inside, the largest at Woolworths and Sears. There were soda fountains with delicious milk shakes and ice cream.

During the 1960s the Hispanics started drifting in, and within ten years everything started going bad. White flight began, and a nice Italian-German neighborhood started looking like Tijuana. Within twenty years, all the nice stores and all theaters were shut down, crime was rampant, and gang wars happened. My family got out in the early 1970s, after my mom was purse-snatched several times and our cars stolen four times. We never had to lock our front door when Hispanics didn't live there. Mission Street became a cesspool of vegetable marts and flea market kiosks. No more big retail stores, no furniture stores, repair shops or soda fountains. All the nice restaurants disappeared.

Fast forward to the 1990s, and the return of white (and asian) professionals. Nice restaurants and retail shops opened up. Ritzy coffee shops and boutiques opened. Neighborhood is looking nice again, and crime went down. So now the Hispanics are complaining about losing "their" neighborhood (that they "owned" for a couple decades). I welcome the changes. Now if only they can get rid of the murals and graffiti, it would be pleasant.

I stood up at a school meeting one time and hollared, “Why are you pinkos so obsessed with human hides? Just leave people alone, you bully.” Then I laughed. So did the audience.

I hung out there quite a bit just after you and I agree - no great concentration of Hispanics - probably more homeless than Hispanics there. What REALLY gnaws at them, though is that yuppies have their own transportation system:

There was a story some time ago that said Chicago was the most segregated city in America or thereabouts. I wonder, where are the least segregated neighborhoods?

I realize it makes a huge difference how you define your categories (white-black-asian, etc.) or (nonhispanic white-nonhispanic black-hispanic white-hispanic black-why not hispanic asian (filipino?), etc.)
