There are quite a few who want to thwart Putin and Obama.

Umm, excluding a few Slavic countries that used to be Warsaw Pact but could now be considered neutral, “Europe” is 520+ million people against Russia at 144 million.

And the major powers of Europe - England and France - are all nuclear powers with both indigenous and U.S. made weapons.

Former Warsaw Pact countries that would now be against Russia in an aggressive war are Poland, all the Baltic states, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic.

Bulgaria, Belarus, Serbia and perhaps Slovakia would be neutral or sympathetic to Russia. Probably neutral as even Belarus is ambivalent about throwing in with Czar Putin on the Great Crusade to save Kievan Rus.

All the crap that is happening now is feather flapping to scare the eas. Russia would lose and lose big in any war with the allied powers of Europe even without the United States. And they know it.

Bulgaria is a NATO member and has shown no indication of wanting out.

So is Slovakia.

But then there are the real populations of those places...will be interesting to see what side they end up on in a real hot war with their Slavic cousins.

Similar was probably said in early 1939 about Germany

As usual with Russia, it’s blather. How far they can push nations until they push back. When confronted directly, Russia backs down and hides. It’s their history.

We need to support our allies and pressure Russia, both militarily and economically. No ones launching nukes and no one can take and hold territory for the long term. That ship has long sailed. Question becomes, with the West’s numerical advantage, will they be willing to use it if tensions escalate?

Nato is dead as long as the one is in office.

“Russia would lose and lose big in any war with the allied powers of Europe”

but Putin isn’t going to go to war with the allied powers of europe. He is going to pick them off one by one, just like he has done with Crimea and east Ukraine.

Estonia is likely next.

if it comes down to throwing Estonia to the wolves or going to war with Russian, what do you think europe is going to do ?

Since my step-grandmother is Estonian, and came here as a DP in front of the Red Army, I can safely tell you that the Baltics will not be a piece of meat the newly hungry Bear will be able to swallow.

Remember they still hold memorials for Waffen SS there.

That’s pretty sick to hold SS memorials. What does an SS memorial march look like? Naked mothers being marching into the forest or something?

""You've got the Russian ambassador threatening that Denmark will be a nuclear target if it participates in any missile defence programme"

It's amazing how bent out of shape Russia still gets over those American missile defense systems liberals always claimed would never work.

You can read about it Here.

To them it's a symbol of anti-Communist resistance, a necessary but distasteful movement to go against the Red Army and the Chekists.

They hated the Bolsheviks that bad.

Those of us who worked on those systems never had any doubts we could make them work.
