You betcha! Generally speaking most people respect what firearms are for and what they can do. They own them to use for their intended lawful purposes.
In contrast five gallon buckets and step ladders cause more injuries than guns precisely because people don't respect their potential dangers. It comes down to assessing potential threats based on emotion rather than a dispassionate reasoned analysis of one's environment.

Yeah - we buy a lot of guns and consider it a "victory" when the actual status quo remains unchanged.
We seem to be good at celebrating "victories" while we continue the descent into tyranny.
