Myself included.
Putin’s history, gone for 10 days, barely seen the last week. Other rulers may come in but there was a shake up there. He may be out in public for appearances sake.
It looks like it is time to show Putin the facts of life by reminding him that he is almost powerless...
Its funny how quickly you change your tune about the 'threat' from Russia when the topic of discussion isn't increasing the Pentagon budget.
“The hope of glory through conquest of lands is deep in the Russian psyche. Without a countervailing power, that does not just vanish.”
But historically Russia has not been a very proficient aggressor; in fact, Russia has historically not been much of an aggressor at all. That’s because historically whenever Russia would dip its toe into some foreign adventure for “conquest” or territory, it usually got its butt kicked. Russia has historically been rather timid as an aggressor, other than loud chest thumping that never went further than that (with the sole exception of WWII, when it counter-attacked the Germans, who, at the beginning of WWII were the Russians’ allies).
We can thank that idiot in the Kremlin for this expansionist, you must be partial to pedophiles and don't care about innocents dying every day.
“...how deep the warrior spirit lives in a lot of Poles.”
That is very true.
“Obama is simply using Chicago thuggery both with Putin and our Allies because hes got nothing else. Hes talked his way through life and now hes up against the big boys who arent interested in playing the hands hes dealing them.”
That comment is spot on.
A defensive missile system cannot protect cities from nuclear attack, since it cannot be 100% effective. Some of the attack will get through.
But that was never the real purpose. The real purpose is to ensure that, in a surprise first strike against OUR nuclear capabilities, enough will survive to destroy the attacker.
Now Russia is moving West, can’t say I blame them. Half the people ON THIS SITE wanted us out of Europe, and we’re about 80% out now...so you pretty-much got what you asked for.
It also doesn’t help that our military is emaciated after 20 years of cuts, while Russia’s is getting stronger by the day, and had access to pretty much all of Western Technology for those same 20 years.
REALLY SMART on our part.
Now that is true outreach and compromise if I have ever seen it!
The Danes are being bullied by Russia... Putin needs to be bitch slapped...
I don't like Russia but I don't like Ukraine just as much.
At least this is somewhat reversing as the missile shield is being built. Danes are not going to back down by Russian threats. The sentiment there is that due to their geographical location they are all going to be dead anyway when the WW3 starts.
However, those Bandera’s OUN collaborators of the Nazi Waffen SS, despite their unspeakable cruelty, do not cast a shadow on the contemporary decent Ukrainian people full of heroic patriots, not a kind of nationalist scum just like Moscow would wish us to see them like.
We Poles, in our vast crushing majority, support and endorse the Ukrainian people in their struggle for freedom and independence.
I, a Catholic, endlessly ask the Mother of God to pray for Ukraine at the Throne of God. At least, this is that one small, seemingly insignificant, thing I can really do for them.
Obama's "leeway after the election" and Hillary's "reset" continues to produce nuanced dividends.
The stunning weakness shown by this president has emboldened Russia to pursue a new Cold War agenda.
Exactly! It stems from this stupid “reset button” bit of Obama’s flexibility. Bush was a gentleman in that way. He knew Russian invasion of Georgia is something his predecessor has to deal with so he left it at that (not after parking a warship in Tbilisi to set clear limits).
Obama’s first act was that dumb “reset button” giving Russia a free pass to undertake their next invasion!
