Funny reading this from the British point of view.

Don’t most American cities just wait a day or two?

If it were rain, it would get there anyway, so why not just dump it.

After two back-to-back massive storms in 2010, Baltimore ploughed snow right into the city's Inner Harbor. While this may seem like a no-brainer for cities near water, the practice is frowned upon for environmental reasons. What's wrong with combining one form of water with another?

I think the EPA has prohibited that.

Don’t most Americans, after it has snowed an inch or two, just huddle in their abodes with their guns at their sides and wait for the starving hordes to bash down the door, only to realize the snow has already melted?

Invite some politicians to speak; all that hot air will melt snow in no time.

Any objections are probably about the debris, oils and litter in plowed snow. In other words, ado about not much.
NYC and Hoboken throw all the snow in the Hudson.

You are permitted to pile it up at the water front or river banks, but not dump it in the water. The idea is the natural sublimation and melting will gradual.
At least that is how big government says it is.

Dump in Ocean. Nope,no here at least. You see...about 20 years ago a terrorist in black robes (meaning a Federal judge) ruled that the water of Boston harbor had to be clean enough to drink. That ruling ordered that the area spend billions and billions on treatment plants, etc. So now it's now not unusual for a household's water bills to be higher than their property tax bills.
And,of course,it also meant no dumping snow in the harbor because God knows that a dog might have peed on it.

Around here, we wait for warm temps, and it magically melts....

The halite/ chemical salt mix they are using is Nasty! Cannot even walk my dog on the street! Wonder if the freakin’ EPA approves this sh*t?
Don’t really want it on my beach! Nor do i wish to swim in it.
To: BuffaloJack
If it were rain, it would get there anyway, so why not just dump it. Because it would be racist. Putting snow in the ocean makes it less saline, causing people to be less buoyant. This will affect blacks more, causing more blacks to drown.
