My kids always seem amazed by what I know. Thanks to FR :) and my love of reading about what is happening in the world.
My youngest is 16 and I told him that the world has changed more in his lifetime than in the previous recorded history of mankind. Sadly, it hasn’t changed for the better.

I work in the field everyday and a smartphone isn’t required.
Your 16 year old needs to understand why YOU know so much.
