RAINER's LAST FILM WAS "THE GAMBLER" (1997), SHE WAS 87 THEN.

Met her once, about twenty-five years ago. Very elegant lady, in the old-fashioned way you don’t see anymore. 104 years, quite a run. She made a big splash in high-profile MGM films for a few short, short years, but not seen much afterwards. I do recall she had a nice role in a “Combat” episode, though, in the 1960s.

When I was 12 I checked THE GOOD EARTH out at the library. I was half way through it when my mother asked what I was reading. When I told her she had a hissy and took it away!! I was dumfounded and never did figure out what she was talking about. Of course when i got older I finished it. I don’t believe I ever did see the film but when I saw her name I immediately thought THE GOOD EARTH!!

That’s funny!
We had that book at home, on my moms bookshelf, and I read it at 12. She said it was a pretty good book.
That was @50 years ago.

The “Combat” episode from 1965 is on YouTube. Great acting, wonderful screen presence.
Here’s the second of three parts from that show. The other segments are linked on the side:
