It’s not like they will shoot you for pointing a toy gun at them or anything.

Point anything resembling a weapon to an officer, a home owner, a store clerk, a bank security, or an air marshal... you are just itching to meet your maker.

The red paint actually helps to point out that there’s something in his hand.

Those guns are available painted like that from the factory.
Same for other high quality guns like Cobras and Lorcins.

way to go crack head add a charge of illegal modification of a firearm to your indictment. It's illegal to paint a handgun?
Could you please point out in the USC where it says that?

GUN WEEK newspaper predicted this back when the Brady Bunch convinced the US that red tips on toy guns was needed.

Not federal but at the state level there are such statutes.
He could also run afoul of any CCW laws that apply to the area.

Any such statue would, of necessity be extraordinarily vague. Any lawyer that would allow his client to be convicted under such a statue should be disbarred. I'd still be interested in any specifics that you might know of. I would have to wonder where the 'Hello Kitty AR-15' would fall under such a law.

I do not trust any official elected to office to “faithfully uphold the Constitution” as they are sworn to do.
It is public opinion that drives them, not the letter of the law.
As for the Hello Kitty AR it would get special treatment: most likely Patriot Act - Terrorism. Although exactly who would be terrorized is debatable.
