he brings home a brochure from Northeastern University

In working, and in my hiring, I have found degrees from state schools with a B average, no blockade to making >$200k.

Do not worry. The only universities worth that kind of money are the Ivy leagues schools such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton. They are worth it just for the contacts you make when in school. The fact is personal relationships open doors that are not open to most people.

Now, if he could get into Cal Tech or MIT, I would sacrifice.

I also recommend he start his LinkedIn.com profile now. Start listing those projects online to help him get the better summer jobs.

We have lumber brokers here that hardly graduated and make well in excess of $200K. As we say: “its not rocket science, just ask for the order”.

We have folks in my area without college degrees, or at least nothing higher than an associate degree, making +$200k.

They are not doing that on 40 hr weeks, but then neither are the engineers, except for a select few.

The hours here are what make this a great six figure job. Most traders work between 30-40 hours/week. Travel, only if you want to. No wining and dinning customers 3 nights a week. No racking up frequent flyer miles spending half your day in airports. No being away from home all the time. I do not own a suit. I buy my clothes mostly from LL Bean.
Yet, we have a hard time hiring people.
