He obviously took the time to really zero in his sights - what's OK at 50' might be off a couple feet at 300'. My 1911 .45 is capable of such a shot - I have hit a 5 gal bucket at 100 yards with it. The .357 will also be true when reaching out.

Luck may have played a part, but preparation is an absolute must.
