If I was President, he would be appointed (in Senate Recess while the Senate was still in session) as my Community and Police Czar.

Am I correct that Wilson’s face had been crushed?

After a head injury of that magnitude what type of rational reasoning can be expected simply do to brain concussion?

If this had gone to court, Wilson’s head injury would have enough to exonerate the officer.

As it is now, the rules of engagement are more stringent for are armed services in a war zone than they are for our police in our neighborhoods. That’s just wrong... Our military ground forces cant shoot unless they are being shot at. Shoot an unarmed civilian and go to jail.

That paragraph is logic free.

If you want to compare military rules to police rules to determine appropriateness, you first have to determine whether military rules of engagement are appropriate...and no, they aren't. They are what you would expect from a military with Obama as CIC.

Constitutional protections do not apply there, the Law of War does.

If you truly wish to see where your rules take you, look at any city such as Detroit. Measure what you want to do against the "Broken Windows" theory of law enforcement.

The criminals will be safer, but the citizens? Much less so.

So you have to decide...is society being run for those who follow the law, or those who choose to be predators?

"Whether someone is armed or not" as a measure of lethality is about the shallowest form of analysis I can imagine. In fact, from what I've read about the ability of thugs to shoot...being in front of the gun may be the safest place.

I didn’t say or do I think he was guilty of anything. It was clearly self defense... But I do think he could have handled it better and had less collateral damage.

I was respecting our differences as differences of opinion until that comment. Is that all you have, that I'm a bootlicker?

I've been accused of being a cop hater on other threads. I think it means that when I say that no hard and fast rule applies in the heat of conflict, I cut against someone else trying to apply one hard and fast rule for any conflict, pro-or-anti-cop.

I've been accused of being a cop hater by those who believe that priorities #1, #2, and #3 are that the cop gets to go home at the end of his shift, and if a few innocent eggs have to be broken along the way...so be it. I'm against most of the SWAT deployment I read about and I see too many instances of innocents killed by no-knock, shoot-and-ask questions-later forcible entries.

Your rules of engagement have a down side...you refuse to acknowledge them. If a PD has a ban on high speed chases, for example, any hardened criminal has his template for escape.

If a PD has a ban on shooting unarmed perps, regardless of the threat they pose, what's to keep one from walking away? When they are found, perhaps because of a traffic stop, how much crime will have been committed along the way?

You seem to be blind to the mindset of an increasingly hardened criminal class.

I live in a suburb of Seattle. From my vantage point I can see the downside of rules such as yours. Though seemingly put in place to build public support, it has the opposite effect as criminals seemingly run the town.

I wonder how well you would handle anything immediately after having your face smashed in.

Shouldn’t you be asking that of someone who thought the force used was excessive?

“I wonder how well you would handle anything immediately after having your face smashed in.”

I would hope I would have the presence of mind to stay in my vehicle and not put myself in a situation where it would be kill or be killed... Waiting for backup would have been all that would be needed. The thug was already running away when he got out of the car in pursuit.

“I was respecting our differences as differences of opinion until that comment.”

Is that why you said I sound like a Seattle politician?

“If a PD has a ban on shooting unarmed perps, regardless of the threat they pose, what’s to keep one from walking away? When they are found, perhaps because of a traffic stop, how much crime will have been committed along the way?”

If it’s the cop’s job to shoot someone so that they don’t commit a crime in the future, God help us...

Is that what your saying?

I am still wondering. How much “presence of mind” would you have after have your face crushed with its inevitable brain concussion.

Thankfully, Wilson survived this potentially fatal injury and further attack.

Truth is an absolute defense. I said that because I still had enough regard for you to think it would be a wakeup call.

After this comment, no more...

If it’s the cop’s job to shoot someone so that they don’t commit a crime in the future, God help us...

That's so misleading as to be a lie. Not just "someone," but someone who was identified as a suspect in a strong-arm robbery who, when requested, refused to get out of the middle of the street...forced the cop's door closed so he couldn't get out of his vehicle...punched the cop, inside his vehicle...then reached into the vehicle and tried to take the cop's gun...was shot in the hand in the process...who then took off...when commanded to stop by the cop, turned and charged the cop...who shot him until he was no longer a threat.

Is that what you mean by "someone?"

Talking with you is a waste of time...but more questions...

Have you, or anyone you know, attacked a cop in such a way? Would you ever consider it?

Brown was a danger to all. If he was willing to do this to a cop...what would he be willing to do to anyone else?

Can’t say... I would be mad of course, and in that sense I would be in in no condition to resume my policing duties. That’s why (I hope) I would have relied on backup at that point.

And this is what police training should stress, if it doesn’t already.

I haven’t read anything about a brain concussion. Guess it’s possible.

I agree with you. It was a very ignorant comment. By the way, this is a genuine(I thought about it)apology. This is not political correctness making me apologize. Unfortunately, leftists don’t want to listen to reason, or facts. They let emotion rule their thoughts. You and I know that Officer Wilson is not guilty.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

With a crushed face and the inevitable brain concussion you would have had little self-awarness at all to make any judgement whatsoever.

In my opinion, Wilson's admirable reaction was due to training and an instinct for self preservation. That you criticize him, and his decision, is very calloused toward him and his very injured condition. Indeed!

Personally, I think it is remarkable that Wilson survived such a serious blow to his head and that he was able to preserve his own life in the attack that followed.

Oh! And....Please remember that when seconds count, “backup” is minutes away. But.....As a sideline quarterback you have perfect hindsight vision. You bet!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You need to “read” about concussion? Really?

The man’s face suffered a blow to the head with enough force to crush his face and you seriously wonder that a concussion is merely “possible”? (Sitting here utterly amazed that an adult would question this.)
