(It's an old skool system designed by real engineers to work for years and years and years....)
I agree so much that my most recent purchase was a "new in box" Western Electric wall phone. I have a newer wireless model to supplement it for Caller ID, redial, answering (I don't let the phone company store my messages) etc.
