While cuffed
In fact I don’t say it is a bad thing in that exact case, but we can see a pattern for sure.
In 1920s in Russia homosexuals were progressives’ fellow travellers, probably because they were useful to undermine traditional family and Orthodox clergy influence at the time, but it hasn’t end well for them as soon as they have become not so useful.
I understand. But it isn’t only “Socialism” that abuses. A variety of other ideologies (left & right) do too & have done so. It’s always helpful to keep abusers in check and in balance. Unfortunately, human beings, in general, are more emotional than logical. :)
You are absolutely right but it is how the article starts:
~France’s Socialist government today pledged to toughen up its anti face-covering law after a veiled Muslim woman was ejected from a major Paris opera house.~
It won’t ever happen in a society where socialism is still in its early PC phase.
Perhaps those societies don't have or haven't developed good judgment. That's what I'd call it: "sound, good, appropriate judgment".

Yes, that’s the clue. Political correctness’s first target is a good judgement.
Yes.
Just a minor point to clarify in general. The spelling “Judgement” is non-law related. “Judgment” spelling is specifically related to any law, which I used in the context of anti-veil, anti-terrorism laws. Both are quite correct in this discussion.
“Having a largely engineering and science background, I had to look up who Charles Martel was. “
No surprise there judging from what you post. To be blunt you are clueless about the ruthless nature of Islam and how close it came to enslaving all of the Free West. And how it once again is rising as a major threat to the Free World.
“...The Free West...” What makes it “Free”? What does it mean to be “Free”?”
It used to be that anyone who attended college had at least a rudimentary knowledge of freedom in Western Civilization. Athens and Sparta stopping the advance of the Persian Empire at Thermopylae. King John being forced to sign the Magna Carta at Runnymede. The end of monarchy and the rise of liberty in the United States. The long twilight struggle of the Free World with the Soviet Union. That sort of thing.
The fact that you can ask “what does it mean to be ‘Free’” tells me that you have little knowledge of the type of societies that the vast majority of people have lived under throughout history, and how rare the freedom enjoyed in the West is.
I forget that there is an entire generation that was born after the collapse of the Soviet Union and which has no idea what ‘the Free World versus the Soviet Bloc’ could possibly mean, despite the fact that it was the background of life for more than half a century. Well the Soviets are gone now but Islam will gladly teach you the lesson of what the absence of freedom is, and it will force you to fight to hang on to the freedoms of the West as imperfect as you find them to be.
