LOL! Would that be before or after the Mustang Ranch turn off? :>} I didn’t really notice the last time we went east on 80 down to Fallon.

The Mustang is North of 80 just past Lockwood. The TRIC is South of 80 five miles further up the road.

Actually, the proposed factory is NOT in Reno or Sparks or even Washoe County. More like Fernely and Storey County about 25 miles or so east of Reno/Sparks. For me, I understand the desire to build the plant and make batteries for their cars but I just don’t see it panning out. Unless Tesla makes electric cars that sell for under $20K, they’ll catch on about as well as the Volt. And there most definitely is tax on property. It isn’t as bad as Cali though.

...

People who drive or ride in a Tesla seem to really like them. I never hear any praise for the Volt. Tesla is planning a 35k car. An Accord at the cheapest is over 20k. Figure in lower fuel costs and possibly lower maintenance, and the 35k may compare very well.

What I fail to understand is why a lot of you call what’s going on “giving away taxpayer funds.”

You and me both. When one looks at a situation you sometimes need to put blinders on and play devil's advocate, looking at it from all viewpoints. People are raising a fuss about $1.3 billion "lost" in revenues, the "giving away taxpayer funds". As if the $1.3 billion is sitting in a box somewhere, or taxpayers are handing over funds to Tesla. As you say, there is no money flowing to Tesla from government or from taxpayers. If other companies build on the land where Tesla is building, it is highly doubtful they would generate $1.3 billion, as even Tesla would have to be wildly successful to generate that amount of taxes. I think people are complaining solely because of the name "Tesla", Elon Musk, and electric cars are anathema to them. Hating a company should not be reason enough to argue against allowing them to build and generate jobs. Better the jobs be situated here than in China.
