Every president since the law was passed has done the same.
Good point!
MN public pensions are about 17 billion in the red-I don’t know of any public benefit of this.
I want all cops tested for steroids.
Meh, some of this stuff makes sense for departments to take, instead of DoD just trashing it. Office equipment, maybe rifles, but anything bigger or something that would be considered ‘SWAT’, is something that should go to the county sheriff. Cities don’t need to have their own SWAT teams all over the place. County-level is where that type of response force should be handled (and used for hostage situations, not shooting Granny’s dog cause they think she has a weed pipe). Some of the vehicles make sense for flood-prone or mountainous areas, as vehicles with high suspensions allow emergency personnel to get around better. They don’t need the crazy uparmored stuff, most of the armor can be removed and kept/recycled by DoD. Police don’t need that. And again, much of this type of rescue gear should be handled at the county level, not city.
As Anoka’s chief said about their shiny 37mm grenade (I mean tear gas) launcher: “the police department has never used the device, valued at $720, which it got in 2006.”
In addition, ANYTHING that DoD is willing to give to police departments, they should have a 1034 program for selling the exact same stuff to civilians. As OldSmaj said in post 17, I bet a lot of the cool toys are in the cops’ garages and in their bug-out bags. I don’t think I’ve ever seen cops use Chemlights. Flares, yes; chems, no. But if they’re willing to give it away to cops, then they should be more than willing to sell it to anyone else.
