They keep saying that this is spread by fruit bats. So, make the fruit bats extinct. Problem solved. We’ve taken lots of species to extinction. Why not fruit bats?

Here's the graphic for your post.

The numbers in this entry have been updated for 27 July. If you look at the graph it appears to be going exponential.

Houston, we’ve got a problem.

FR Linda Frances just posted that there is now a suspected case in Hong Kong.

ummm-huh, and where do the fruit bats catch it? They might be just one vector.

Airports in South Africa have installed ‘thermal scanners’ to detect people with fever... the problem is, the incubation period is some 21 days, so this will not stop it.

This is quickly spiraling out of control in Africa, PC in the West will get us all killed.

They should quarantine Africa now.

If this mutates into an airborne version, we will really have a problem. Spanish flu was a bad virus, but then it mutated in the body of a soldier in the USA and became a monster killer virus - it killed more people than died in World War I.

From today's Telegraph Live page:

Time 17.56 BREAKING An asylum seeker was suspected of having the deadly Ebola virus after developing symptoms within days of arriving in Britain from Libera, it has emerged, Sarah Knapton reports.

The man, who was awaiting processing at an immigration centre run by security company G4S in Gatwick, was feared to be carrying the disease, which has killed more than 700 people in West Africa.

Immigration staff isolated the man and tested him for Ebola earlier this week, but he did not have the infection.

However the incident shows how easy it would be for the deadly disease to enter Britain through illegal channels.

And not just Great Britain. The EU open borders policy is not sounding so good today, is it.

Indications that a break out from Africa is highly possible as more wealthier Africans flee.

Yikes.

Fomite

A fomes (pronounced /ˈfoʊmiːz/) or fomite (/ˈfoʊmaɪt/) is any object or substance capable of carrying infectious organisms, such as germs or parasites, and hence transferring them from one individual to another. Skin cells, hair, clothing, and bedding are common hospital sources of contamination.

Fomites are associated particularly with hospital acquired infections (HAI), as they are possible routes to pass pathogens between patients. Stethoscopes and neckties are two such fomites associated with health care providers. Basic hospital equipment, such as IV drip tubes, catheters, and life support equipment can also be carriers, when the pathogens form biofilms on the surfaces. Careful sterilization of such objects prevents cross-infection.

Researchers have discovered that smooth (non-porous) surfaces (e.g. door knobs) transmit bacteria and viruses better than porous materials (e.g. paper money).[1][2] The reason is that porous, especially fibrous, materials absorb and trap the contagion, making it harder to contract through simple touch.

The observed and tested non-contact transmission between separately caged monkeys is not good news from 2012.

Really glad to hear that. Can you provide a link for more info on why she was suspected of infection for files.
