Obama effect?
Hell YES! No question, just read the comments on the bottom of that website. People are absolutely outraged at Hollywood for fanatically pushing that putz.

I want to see the number of butts in the seats, not the $ ticket sales. They raise ticket prices, it just makes it seem like movies did better.

For the first time in history probably, television is where the more interesting writing and storylines are.

Eight years ago was about the last time I attended a movie theater.

You’ll never see that number, because nobody tracks that data.
The closest you’ll get to a “butts in seats” tally is to look at a “per screen average.”

Remakes, sequels of sequels, remakes of remakes of remakes, bad acting (very bad), very little to no originality, 3-D (lol), $15 to see a movie, theaters full of loud obnoxious people, theaters full of trash and trash smells.....

The main reason is a dearth of good movies to go see.
I have been to two movies, Transformers and Captain America, and that is all I saw even remotely worth going to.
The next picture I will definitely see is “Expendables III”.
To: AngelesCrestHighway
I haven’t been to the movies since Roger rabbit. Quit Netflix because nothing seemed interesting.
If an occasional movie comes out I might be interested, I download it only.

Glad to see someone else who gets it. The funny part is that most movies these days are so bad they're not even worth downloading.
Hollywood will never make another good movie, except by accident, because they are completely creatively bankrupt and beholden to political correctness. I can see the script-writing by hive-mind in everything they do, including a lot of TV: someone starts with a decent idea, and then the ideologues holding the purses say, "Oh, ok, but where is the gay character? And shouldn't there be more people of color? And where is the witty, wise-cracking banter between the protagonists? And shouldn't the bad guy be white?" In the end, you get the same movie over and over and over again, just set in a different place or time.

Obama effect?
No, I don’t think so. I think it’s the “the-movies-are-so-crappy-that-people-don’t-want-to-waste-their-time-and-money” effect.
For one thing, CGI can only go so far in compensating for the lack of story, bad dialog, bad acting, and interminably long and boring fight scenes. And movies permeated through and through with “Progressive” propaganda don’t exactly pluck at the heart strings with poignant story-telling and universal themes. I suspect even the teens are tired of going to grossly over-priced, badly made, sophomoric movies made just for them.

Longmire, The Americans, Fallen Skies, all on right now, are all very well written and entertaining.

They have some terrible sounding movies out there, things I wouldnt watch for free.So does this mean you're not going to line up to see The Rock as Hercules? Or the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot?

We ignore(at our own peril)the power/influence of the liberals control of media/academia on the young and the stupid in this country.
Where are the "affirmative action" cries to demand this one-sided power/influence become more ideologically balanced?
