Long live the Bear Flag Republic and her flag that bears a single star.
Oh yeah boss, I'm with you on that one!

Long live the California Republic!

We're also honorary members of the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department. Our official jobs are to consume large quantities of chicken, tri-tip and beer at their annual barbecues.

Oh yeah, I love donating to a good cause.

the Bear Flag Republic

Historic California Bear Flag as photographed in 1890. This flag, raised at Sonoma on June 14, 1846, was in the possession of the Society of California Pioneers at the time of the 1906 Great Earthquake and Fire, and burned during the conflagration.

According to the California Blue Book:

“The flag was designed by William Todd on a piece of new unbleached cotton. The star imitated the lone star of Texas. A grizzly bear represented the many bears seen in the state. The word, ‘California Republic’ was placed beneath the star and bear. The Bear Flag was replaced by the American flag. It was adopted by the 1911 State Legislature as the State Flag. ”

During the Bear Flag Revolt, from June to July 1846, a small group of American settlers in California rebelled against the Mexican government and proclaimed California an independent republic. The republic was short-lived because soon after the Bear Flag was raised, the U.S. military began occupying California, which went on to join the union in 1850. The Bear Flag became the official state flag in 1911.

I just looked at your letter to the editor is said Pacific Sun.

It was slightly surreal reading some common sense real world stuff in that paper.

Thank you.
