I dream of what might transpire during the next 40 years
.........
Likely, the difference between now and 40 years from now will be about like the difference between 1890 and 1930 in energy world. Well likely not that stark. But still some pretty big stuff is coming imho in that time frame.
Fracking is a production enhancement technique which fractures the rock surrounding a hole which has already been drilled.
When the title of am article begins by displaying a fundamental lack of knowledge of the subject, I have a hard time convincing myself to read the rest.
I can understand that high prices provide an incentive for shale production, but shouldn't the increased production from shale eventually reduce prices at the pump?
Oil is a globally priced commodity. We still depend upon a lot of oil imported to meet our domestic demand. And the global demand for oil continues to rise.
That would be my point.
It has been a drilling technique for over 30-40 years .
“Horizontal drilling
It has been a drilling technique for over 30-40 years .”
Yes, you are technically correct; however, that is like saying fraccing is a completion technique for over 60 years(which it is).
The point is that both have greatly changed since the many years they have been around.
Fracking isn’t a drilling technique. Frack away and you will not make a foot of hole.

I see the point. I also hate to see the corruption of the word “fraccing” to be spelled “fracking”. The latter term originated with a NYT reporter who wished to worsen the perception of the procedure to be more like an inelegant and derogatory term.
Point well taken. I admit to having used both spellings, and should use the more correct fraccing. My fallback position is to use "hydraulic fracturing" when I'm not too tired or lazy to type it out.
