It's absolutely insane. Gays hated Reagan and would never have listened to his advice on that or any other subject. Besides, there was nothing for him to tell them that they didn't already know. Long before the cascade of AIDS research dollars produced results, every gay man with half a brain knew how to avoid becoming HIV+. Did gays change their sexual practices? Some did, many did not. Were those sexual practices endorsed by Ronald Reagan? Of course not. How many gay men did Ronald Reagan kill? None.
Gay activists need to believe that conservatives were pleased by the spread of AIDS. It sure wasn't true for me. I watched men my own age being eaten alive by that damn disease. I saw the fear and hopelessness in their eyes. They knew what was coming, and it came, and they died, horribly. However, I don't think of them as victims any more than I think of my smoker friends who died of lung cancer as victims. They all intentionally engaged in behavior that they knew could kill them. They chose to do it anyway, and it killed them. They killed themselves. Leftists will twist themselves into pretzels to avoid confronting that simple fact. Leftists "know" that Big Tobacco happily killed my smoker friends, and Ronald Reagan happily killed my HIV+ acquaintances. It's like "knowing" that the sun sets in the east.
Same here and haven’t since the early 70s.
