“dittos! always always always follow the money! cui bono, I am going to use that phrase every day,”

In my junior year in high school, I was in my second year of Latin. I asked my teacher, since I didn’t want to be a doctor or lawyer, why should I waste my time with Latin.

Her reply was ‘cui bono”. She explained to me whenever I saw, heard of or read something that seemed not to be right.
I was to use the phrase, ‘cui bono’ to my self and others. Then try to figure out. who would benefit from the actions.

She said the ‘cui bono’ in many so called unknowns was created by those wanting more power and often more money.

Since then, I have added ‘follow the money’.

In life and often on Free Republic just bringing up ‘cui bono’ evokes some very interesting replies from the posters or those in life, who are pushing something that smells or in real life.

You learned well from your Latin teacher!

from the internet:

“For years, I’ve been pointing out that much of the hoopla over racism and sexism isn’t actually about blacks or women or whatever. Instead, it serves as a cover story for ambitious, clever men to get what they want. For example, I’ve long been fascinated by how mortgage lenders like Angelo Mozilo, Roland Arnall, and Kerry Killinger used the rhetoric of the War on Racist Redlining to blow up the housing bubble.”
