A 30 round magazine on a fully automated machine gun would empty in about 1 second, wouldn’t it?

In the Army, a “machine gun” only fires fully automatically—no semi-auto selection. Most military rifles are automatic rifles (not “machine guns”). If it fires pistol cartridges, it should be called a sub-automatic pistol or something like that.
