Lots of more questions than answered here, and yet another good case against letting women serve aboard ships.

I guess the Navy response will be to bar Watch’s from carrying ammo ...

In fairness, you would think that sailors other than SEALs wouldn’t need to be skilled at hand to hand combat.

And THIS guy is the current commanding officer of the Norfolk Navy Base?
He seems rather...plump.

The man then got into an altercation with a female petty officer and disarmed her, Navy officials said. Palomino said Mayo stepped over the disarmed officer and fired his weapon at the assailant. He was serving on watch for the installation that night and came to help once he saw the civilian board the ship.I hate to point this out, but I suspect the female security officer did not have the body mass to take on the male truck driver which is why she got disarmed. I would also suspect she was unprepared to fire her weapon into the "suspect" despite the warnings that deadly force is authorized.
We appear to have another victim of political correctness.

Strength counts...it was only a matter of time. When you have to post guards who may get into a physical altercation you need to post the biggest, burliest, “baddest” dudes you have available! “Bumma” wouldn’t understand that!

If this is true, and I can't think of any reason why not, then a bunch of us jumped to a certain conclusion yesterday about the circumstances involving two male sailors. Myself included.
Not saying I've changed any opinions about who ought to serve on Navy ships. Just saying my bad in this case.
Next time I'll wait for more information.

Has the female petty officer been discharged from the Navy yet? She is obviously unfit for duty, let alone guilty of negligent homicide.
To: Timber Rattler
And we’re assured women are fully capable of serving as Army and Marine combat infantrymen. Riiiiight.
To: OKSooner
Bless you. You’re the only one who’s acknowledged the gay talk yesterday.

Lots of more questions than answered here, and yet another good case against letting women serve aboard ships. Ban them from the military altogether?

I don’t know what training after boot camps minimal hand to hand is taught in the fleet but I was Navy Seabees and we trained whenever we were home ported. When we were deployed there was always opportunities to study martial arts such as judo. We also had boxing smokers that any level of proficiency could participate. I don’t recall us being any more bad ass than other groups.

I agree, the trucker should never have gotten close enough to touch her, he should have been in the hospital or morgue before that could happen. If the person isn't willing to pull the trigger they shouldn't be issued a weapon, or be put in a situation where they would have to. To paraphrase " A persons got know their limitations".

I wouldn’t screw with anybody with a neck that big, especially when he doesn’t have a belly to match.
