As I said, you have no right to your own “facts” and you really should look at the actual information behind the press release talking points you are spouting.

No one is "forced" to inhale SHE

except for the children and fetuses I just mentioned.

while there is a possible slight increase in the risk of health problems of chronic and constant SHS exposure, there are no FACTS that it causes anything.

From the CDC:

In children, secondhand smoke causes the following:1,3

Ear infections

More frequent and severe asthma attacks

Respiratory symptoms (e.g., coughing, sneezing, shortness of breath)

Respiratory infections (i.e., bronchitis, pneumonia)

A greater risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

In U.S. children aged 18 months or younger, secondhand smoke exposure is responsible for:3

An estimated 150,000–300,000 new cases of bronchitis and pneumonia annually

Approximately 7,500–15,000 hospitalizations annually

Health Effects: Adults

In adults who have never smoked, secondhand smoke can cause cardiovascular disease and lung cancer.1,5

Tobacco Use and Pregnancy

Women who smoke during pregnancy are more likely than other women to have a miscarriage.

Smoking can cause problems with the placenta—the source of the baby's food and oxygen during pregnancy. For example, the placenta can separate from the womb too early, causing bleeding, which is dangerous to the mother and baby. Smoking during pregnancy can cause a baby to be born too early or to have low birth weight—making it more likely the baby will be sick and have to stay in the hospital longer. A few babies may even die

Smoking during and after pregnancy is a risk factor of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). SIDS is an infant death for which a cause of the death cannot be found. Babies born to women who smoke are more likely to have certain birth defects, like a cleft lip or cleft palate.

The Constitution doesn't give you a "right" to your own "facts."...Pushing LSM and special interest talking points doesn't fly around here

says the guy pushing tobacco industry talking points.

Rather amazing that an individual who signed up here in ‘05 could manage to miss the site’s underlying ethos so spectacularly.

says the guy pushing tobacco industry talking points.

First, I'm not a guy, and second, I put as much trust in what comes out of the tobacco industry as I do the government, the pharmaceutical industry, and the body parts cartel, which means NONE. I've read all the research, something you obviously haven't.

"Can" and "may" have very different definitions than "do" and "will" when it comes to causation. And "estimated" is just the same - a guess.

Smoking during and after pregnancy is a risk factor of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). SIDS is an infant death for which a cause of the death cannot be found.

This alone proves you blindly accept anything "your" government tells you, considering for years most of the SIDS organization have disavowed this claim.

All of this you would have known had you been paying any attention to threads such as this over the years.

He’s eliminating the Ohio income tax. Pretty amazing that some folks, many of whom aren’t even from Ohio, are completely focused on cigarettes and not that.

I have been an ER nurse for 10 years. I have seen many many first hand examples of just how benign first and second hand smoke is in adults and children. I’m done with this. I still support Kasich and I have zero regrets for having voted for him. Get rid of that gosh darned income tax one way or the other John.

Eliminating it entirely might actually accomplish the goal.

However, I saw no mention of 'elimination' mentioned in the article:

Kasich proposes funding an 8.5 percent income tax-cut for all tax brackets .. *

Kasich also wants to raise the Commercial Activity Tax on gross receipts for businesses .. and implement a gradual 2.75 percent tax on oil and gas ..

Quite the contrary, by the sound of it.

* That 8.5% 'cut' for which you're apparently willing to throw principle to the wind will,
assuming the current median rate, net you a tax reduction of .00298%, or a whopping ~$297/yr on a $100,000 income.

He campaigned on “phasing out” the income tax. Phasing out implies a series of measures which gradually eliminates the income tax. And I haven’t thrown my principles to the wind, I have defended them. Are you even from Ohio btw?

My geography is irrelevant to your repeated ardor for robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Kasich has seemed like one of the decent ones over the years, but this is snake oil in drag.
Extorting more gold from one group in order to extort a little less from another is nothing less than cynical mob bribery.

Two wolves and a sheep held a vote re the dinner menu . . .

Cig taxes are hugely regressive.

So what? That's because poor people smoke than rich people. It's a tax only paid if people chose to smoke.

“The non-smoking Atkins diet people get off Scott-free.”

Meat eaters. They should be taxed too. Think of the carbon footprint.

Kasich is doing what’s right for Ohio and if you aren’t even from Ohio, you don’t have a word to say about it as far as I’m concerned. If you live in Ohio and you smoke, you will still reap the benefit of a lower income tax so, in reality, your increased cigarette tax has been subsidized. If you don’t smoke, that’s just more money for you.
