John McCain in Kiev: 'Ukraine will make Europe better'
John McCain, the American senator, has told protesters in the Ukranian capital Kiev that their country's destiny lies with Europe - despite an EU official saying talks with the EU were 'on hold'
seems to be a pattern with his cheer-leading government changes in Syria, Libya, Egypt ---
Where is the connection between what the State Dept says in public and what Putin may or may not do?
Obama is a terrible president and a weakling, but the tyrant in the Kremlin makes him look like a choir boy.
So in your mind Russia defends democracy and Putin’s imperial ambitions have nothing to do with this? I guess the Ukrainians should just be glad that they have a man so committed to democracy living next door to them. I suppose at some point President-for-Life Putin will agree to democracy in Russia, too. When did the hopes and dreams of Russian Imperialist become an imperative of American Conservatives?
I’m pretty sure he is a supporter of Putin’s Russian Imperial designs. It’s as if he and some of the dumbed down conservatives who never, ever read a conservative book decided that conservatism is not about private property, the rule of law, popular sovereignty, respect for others, civil government, etc. For them, it’s all about hating Obama so blindly that they’ll embrace a crackpot and despot.
Yes, it’s a shame that some of our leaders prefer popular sovereignty and self-government to despots aligned with Putin. Must be the work of Goldstein.
You can be Conservative at home, yet realize there are certain realities in the world, and that US-style government isn’t for everybody.
How much does Moscow pay you to post this crap, “Texas”Freeper2009?
Except that we’re not talking about “everybody.” We’re talking about a nation, named Ukraine, who mostly wish to be independent (especially from the Russians who starved on purpose about ten million Ukrainians in the 1930s and who have historically bullied them), aligned with Europe, democratic, and ruled by laws. Putin is not the person who should decide Ukraine’s fate. I’ll go out on a limb here and say that you do not agree that Ukrainians have the same right to choose their fate as say, Brits, Germans, and Americans. But Ukrainians think they have that right. Basic human rights are for those who want them. Putin’s treatment is for those who want a former KGB Colonel calling the shots and dumbed down FReepers who don’t know the real principle of conservatism or care about other human beings.
These are not real conservatives. They’re not the type who believe in limited government, the rule of law, a respect for tradition, a love of country, a reference for the past, a desire for civil and popular sovereignty. These are conservatives who believe in a former KGB Colonel restoring his vision of Russian Imperialism and beating down an independent nation that wants nothing to do with him. Any way you dress it up these people are merely apologist for a tyrant.
They were/are independent...but they are also a nation where many still hold strong ties to Russia. When there is such a wide disparity of loyalties amongst a populace, the best thing is to arrange a ‘Velvet Divorce’, as the Czechs and Slovaks did.
There have been plenty of opportunities to do this.......However, the 1994 Budapest Memorandum was a Cluster-You-Know-What of huge proportions that virtually guaranteed this day would eventually come.
How were US-Russian relations under the Czars? Quite cordial actually, even though back then their reach went all the way into Poland.
Was Viktor Yanukovych elected in a free election by the people of Ukraine?
Was Viktor Yanukovych removed from office using the method laid out in the Ukrainian Constitution?
If your answers to #1 is yes, and #2 is no, then you have no choice but to admit that yes Russia is supporting democracy while our president is backing the rioters and thugs that have taken over the capital.
Since when does the US support the overthrow of Democratically elected officials from other countries? and advocates they be replaced with unelected thugs and rioters?
Don't let your old cold war mentality blind you to what is occurring here.

I agree with you. Since when did we start supporting this type of thing.
Yes, comrade. We must do what comrade Putin says. No return to cold war days. Comrade President for Life Putin is the all knowing, all seeing, bestest leader since comrade Stalin. We must praise his name and shout to the roof. Always clap and wish him long life as supreme communist leader, oops, I mean Russian leader. Hey, when will the Russians turn on this lout?
Say what you will but just as all the poor people in the world want into the US all the poor nations in Europe want into the EU. It’s a fact. And they damn sure don’t want the born again phony nationalist Putin bossing them around.
