He’s got to be much more than 600lbs, based on this article. I’m around 340lbs and none of that nonsense even comes close to applying to me. I’ve known 500-600lb guys and it doesn’t apply to them, either. I’m thinking this man is much closer to 1,000lbs or more.

He can more than take care of himself at 600 lbs, and I know.

I appreciate your candor, and congratulate you upon your success - But I would be your counterpoint:

I was hale and hearty when I turned 40 - Always had labor intensive work, was maybe packing 10 or 15 lbs... In 2 weeks/month I went from that to totally sedentary, in screaming pain... I literally only got up to go to the bathroom once a day, because it hurt so bad to move.

I lost all of my 40's to that condition... Wound up bedridden or wheelchair bound for the lion's share of it... I never really ate that much - generally just a big plate at dinner time - But lowered metabolism and complete inactivity did their damage anyway - I never quite hit 500, but I could see it from where I stood...

I am in my 4th year of recovery from that illness - As soon as I could walk again, the weight slowly started to come off - 30 lbs the first year, 80 lbs the second... Now I have to fight hard in the lower half of the 300's ... keep bouncing back and forth, and can't seem to get under the 330 mark... I WILL get back down. It WILL happen, but it is seriously difficult to do.

Things most wouldn't even consider are major obstacles - It took FOREVER for my back straps to keep my back aligned - Even now, they are good, but only if I am straight up-and-down... If I get even a little off-kilter, my back is destroyed and I am down for a week. My groin muscles had shortened, and my ass muscles had lengthened, from sitting for so very long, so my hips wouldn't work right... every muscle in my body - even muscles that most don't even know they have had weakened nearly to a sort of atrophy. My bones had not supported weight for a decade...

So while I am not hacking your observations, I will state that one size does not fit all. And my every sympathy goes out to those who are house-bound, wherein weight is almost always a factor - It is a miserable existence, not made better by folks who make flippant remarks like some of those found in this thread.

If YHWH taught me anything in that experience, It is to have mercy and kindness for those who are suffering - WHATEVER they are suffering from. A lot of times, my judgements before the fact were uninformed.

Oh, gosh, I can say the exact same thing, even though my experience wasn't of extreme weight gain due to illness (or something else).

We learn in Weight Watchers that part of achieving a weight that's satisfactory to you is learning about healthy eating ... but an equally important part is everything else in your life.

And who has everything in their life together? I learned to give everyone a break, and a smile, and a, "Can I help you reach something, sir?" I'm not any better than someone else, just because their inner mess shows on the outside and mine doesn't.
