I don’t believe anybody is going to starve in the world run by machines. They just won’t have anything to do.>>>>>>>>>

It will be difficult to have families based on this. Men and women have certain psychological expectations about the man going out to make money and bring it home for wife and children. This how men gain respect and why a woman wants to be with him. When people live on gov’t handouts this gets destroyed. The handouts are usually funneled through the woman if she has children

In the old USSR you needed a permit to live in Moscow and other large cities. There was a need to keep people living in rural areas to produce foodstuffs plus the old commies kept Moscow from becoming a 3rd world shanty town like Mexico City (parts of it anyway) or Rio De Janero

Take a look at the ghetto. Children are still born, indeed a good many more than in “nice” neighborhoods, there just aren’t any “fathers” around. That is probably the direction we’re headed.

My entire point is that the idea of “doing needed work as a way to gain respect of self and others” may be on its way out.

Note I said “needed work.” Pretend or make work doesn’t count.

Given the way the free market works, there is no way to slow or reverse this trend without massive government intervention and direction of the economy.

If I’m right, which I sincerely hope I’m not, this trend, which I think is already well under way, will do a great deal more to destroy our society than government giveaways.

In fact, it is possible to make a good case that much of the increase in giveaways has been necessitated by the drop in true economic demand for large classes of people.

IOW, to a considerable extent conservatives may be complaining about the treatment while ignoring the cause of the problem.

The free market has been very good for humanity for several centuries, net-net. But like science and evolution, it is morals-free. There is no inherent reason to expect that the market in future will continue to be beneficial to society as a whole, though certain individuals and groups will certainly do very well.

Obama and the Democrats know that this is a problem and are trying to seize permanent power by catering to those will be permanently on the outs as far as meaningful employment and wages. The Republican completely ignore this because it does not fit in with the philosophy that free markets solutions are what you always want.

Obama/Democrats will only make this problem worse by what they do. They are cynical, stupid and power-mad.

Free trade has made this problem take place a few decades sooner than it would have otherwise. Both parties are full sellouts when it comes to free trade. Mass immigration of unskilled 3rd worlders only makes this worse and both parties have caved in continuously on this to get voters, Hispanic and otherwise.

In the age of robotics/computerization it is beyond stupid to allow in (via immigration) more uneducated illiterate unskilled people when we already have a vast surplus of these types

My sincere apologies, EEGator. Now I understand that your quote was just continuing the bit of fun I was trying tho inject in the thread. I mistakenly thought you were serious, and it was totally my fault for jumping to conclusions. Please forgive me.

It’s quite alright. Misunderstandings happen all the time...especially on the internet. Take care. :)
