His opinion was also colored by spending most of his time flying in Northern Arizona, where density altitude is a big big problem. Losing an engine taking off from Flagstaff or Grand Canyon at 7000 feet on a 100 degree day is gonna ruin your afternoon if you’re in a light twin.
