” Despite budget cuts, the agency said, agents have resolved more than 565,000 cases of identity theft this year,”
What exactly does resolved mean? Did theythey put them in prison?

What exactly does resolved mean? Did theythey put them in prison? Yes, isnt it pitiful what passes for journalism these days.
The Reporter in the this article is either totally lacking in curiosity or is trying to put the IRS in the very best light possible by totally ignoring this important bit of IRS jargon.
You will note that no where in the article does it say how many cases of tax refund fraud were prosecuted or how much money was recovered. I wonder Why.
What does resolved me in this context? Inquiring minds want to know. Why didnt CBS News?

“The IRS sent a total of 655 tax refunds to a single address in Lithuania, and 343 refunds went to a lone address in Shanghai. “
One day, the IRS will have some of those new-fangled computer things that will be able to quickly determine multiple mailings to the same address for refunds.

Good grief, I sure hope the IRS is playing a key role in the implementation of Obamacare. With this kind of efficiency, what could possibly go wrong?
