I need to get a hand pump that I can slap on my wellhead. A very shallow water table makes it easy to draw water from.

"Funny thing about these shows is that they always show the urban horrors.
Show me some of those rural horrors that result from societal collapse. LOL"
They've shown lots of rural horrors in at least hundreds of movies like "The Hills Have Eyes," "Wrong Turn" and so on. We are the rural horrors! Boo! LOL! [familyop lurches around, head tilted to the side, moaning and growling.]

Good idea to get a hand pump for a shallow well. For deep wells, there are also solar pump systems and/or small diesel generator systems (pretty simple to have along with the regular AC pump with transfer switch if already powered by grid, electrical inlet, outdoor switch and 4-conductor generator cable with generator plug made to plug into inlet, see National Electrical Code).

Prepper ping, I know we had another thread on this show, but worthwhile for more discussion.

If electrical power were down in cities, fuel would be unavailable. Station pumps need electricity. Traffic jams would occur. Traffic from cities to rural areas would be very limited and monitored. Access to parks and other government lands would be very limited and monitored (sanitation, civil order and other issues). Looks like we’d all be trapped and should stock up on books, cards and board games in advance. Me...I think I’ll get a croquet set or build a miniature golf course. ;-)

He was, if you think back over his segment, the makers still did an OK job of showing pitfalls or consequences to remind even the most hard core preppers, to think.
Remember that they weren’t there to show success, but to reach different segments of the TV audience with a personalized prod, for them to get more involved and less complacent.

I’ve been reviewing water systems, and have read a lot of complaints lately about the quality of the berkey filters. I’m leading towards a katadyn, but I’m still not sure...

I grew up in a fairly rural part of urban (rat) state, and moved back. I always felt like I have more in common with rural folk in the midwest, south and west than people in suburbia and urban areas here in New England.
And when I talk with my rural neighbors, most of them hold views many FReepers share.
I think that is the big divide in America.

Haven’t been able to find out what chemicals / heavy metals the Aquarain filters out. Went with the Aquacera Ceracarb instead.

I watched it today, 4-6 pm. It was intriguing, and so realistic that I could not wait for it to be over.
Hope to God this does not happen in real life, but the next solar flare could change that real quick.
