Norquist is pissed that Steve King used the process to take two weeks away from House amnesty peddling apart from the other goals.
Also the longer it takes to come up with an amnesty bill the longer Steve King gets to be the grassroots immigration spokesman for the GOP. Even if they pass an amnesty bill Steve King keeps 40-49% of House Republicans against the bill and hispandering is futile.
If not for the shutdown Labrador and Gowdy would be peddling amnesty lite. Gowdy instead is talking about the veterans who were blocked.
Even if a poll says 53% blame the GOP for the shutdown doesn’t mean it will affect the vote. The poll just implies that the public know Obama is a nutcase and the public think the GOP should have caved.
