"Just give me the money back that I have put into SS for the last 45 years! "

Don't forget about the payments made into the system on your behalf by your employer(s).

Ryan can drop dead.

Welfare, food stamps, WIC, ‘free” school breakfasts and lunches, Section 8 housing, Obamaphones, Medicaid, SSDI “crazy checks”, government services for illegal aliens, etc., etc., on infinitum. ...AFTER you cut off the Democrat party’s base of moochers, bums, deadbeats, and parasites, THEN talk to me about trimming back benefits for seniors who dumped their hard-earned money down the government toilet their entire working lives.

Until then, STFU.

Aside from ending SS, I prefer floating the retirement age annually to maintenance annual break-even solvency.

(And to those who want their money back: sorry, it’s already stolen. The question is whether you’ll be getting benefits that those whose earnings are funding have no hope of themselves getting.)

So, if my husband and I have been diligently saving and contributing to 401Ks for our retirement, we are going to be punished by fewer benefits??

Eggzackly. GOPe at work here...screwing the people the Dems are afraid to.

When you keep supporting a larger & larger segment of the society who doesn’t contribute any taxes or any work, you will run out of money.

Attacking the successful to continuing supporting those with a hand out chronically for more & more is just plain wrong.

This country will GO GALT very soon.

That my wealthy parents earn SS while my poor daughter pays in is totally stupid.

That you believe that says you still have a bit of liberal Democrat in you. If your parents paid in, they should have their payout. If they don't think it's fair to others, they can always refuse to take the checks. People are appalled when I say Bill Gates deserves his SS. He paid into it, so why not? Otherwise, it's just another wealth-transfer scheme.

"So, if my husband and I have been diligently saving and contributing to 401Ks for our retirement, we are going to be punished by fewer benefits?? APPALLING! Just give me the money back that I have put into SS for the last 45 years!"

Well, all of us conservatives have been pushing for entitlement cutbacks. This is just the beginning of what has to take place or we are going to destroy the country.

But, before you flame me, means testing simply means that if a person has a hoog of money available (pensions, savings, stocks, etc.) and they have a substantial income flow (perhaps $ 500,000 per year?), then they have little need for another $ 30K of SS. A fellow I know made $ 2MM per year (80 years old) and collected $ 50K more per year in SS and used it for greens fees. I have heartburn with that. It was Social "Security", not another retirement plan, folks.

This 'raise the retirement age' solution is BS. What are we, some kind of super human that eventually will be able to work well into our 100's? NO. At some point regardless advances in medicine there is a maximum threshold where bones, nerves and muscles take their toll from working after 40 years so continually raising the retirement age is nonsense.

It would make more sense to LOWER the monthly SS payout amount than to RAISE the retirement age. Not everyone is SUPERHUMAN and able to work in their 70's, let alone mid '60's.

The big difference is that bondholders chose to buy into those bonds, they weren’t forced to do so.

We’ve sacrificed a lot investing in retirement outside of SS in addition to paying ever growing amounts into SS. My retirement account could be 2-3 times as large if I had been able to put the money paid to SS into the retirement account.

Piss off, I don’t care if they do away with SS, but I WANT MY MONEY BACK. Why don’t they means test all congressmen, senators and other government employee retirement programs, FIRST!

Im on SS..didnt ever plan on taking it early but had no choice. But lets be honest...the system stinks! Id suggest folks look at Chile and Colombia for inspiration.
Chile started int the 80s and Colombia started in the 90s.

If they include investments/interest then those of us who HAVE diligently saved are screwed. I’ve paid in the full amount for Social Security taxes since I was in my 20s...30+ years ago. I am OWED this money back in some fashion!”””

Did you ever notice that there is never a peep about all the persons who never LIVE long enough to collect their SS?

SS has been putting out more than it takes in, for many months now.’’’

How come no one ever mentions that Obama dropped the contributions to SS by 2% for a 2 year period.???

How much money didn’t go into the fund with those actions?

Anyone able to calculate that here on FR??

Everyone who is not a moocher or other democrat supporter will be required to purchase an ObamaCare Insurance plan until they day they die.”””

Since Democrats want voters to remain on the poll lists for many years after death, don’t be so cavalier to think that your estate won’t be charged for continuing Obamacare premiums!!!!

This country will GO GALT very soon.

Unless they come up with a zero point transducer and force field technology, most people may find the Galt option harder to pull off than they think. Don't put it past the clowns running Fedgov to start imputing income to those they deem to be voluntarily under employed and taxing them on money they never earned. People may scoff at the idea but courts do it every day to divorced fathers as a means to boost child support payments if the system deems them to be voluntarily under employed.

They sure don’t use means testing when applying the taxes to our paychecks.

Of course they do, it's called a tax bracket.

It’s interesting that you always hear about “cutbacks” for SS but never for section 8, food stamps, TANF, obamaphones, medicaid, etc.
