I NEVER understood that. All us Americans were given a FULL WEEK'S orientation on what to do/not do and so on. Why those arsewholes HAD to break the law was beyond me.
Not only did THEY end up in a Saudi prison, they made it horrible for ALL their friends and co-workers and made it JUST that much harder for the rest of us who kept our noses clean.
Geez.
Just plain stupid. I could have gone to see one of those beheadings but I never did. Why would I?
The Saudi system was archaic, barbaric and bizarre but those STUPIDS who broke the law KNEW the law, locals or foreigners, so I had NO sympathy for them.
Foreigners, especially ARAMCONS, knew what they were getting into and would MOAN and GROAN about all the restrictions. So, in chorus, we would say, "THEN GO HOME!!"
These complainers would then start moaning about how they needed the money and couldn't go home.
Never saw a bigger bunch of crybabies, whiners and complainers. The Saudis would give you the needed exit visa the VERY NEXT DAY if you really wanted it. They didn't want people there who were miserably unhappy.
I can’t imagine what’d be like in a Saudi prison. An infidel would not have an easy time of it. During my two year tour, I can’t remember any American being in a Saudi slammer. The cops used to station a squad car right outside the gate to the embassy in hopes of catching a contractor driving drunk, after happy hour at the Marine House. Thank God for diplomatic immunity.

IMHO
The press doesn't care because liberal elite politicians are financially propped up by three groups: Saudis (for cash) blacks for voter fraud and votes, and Newspapers for 'protection'.... Organized crime should have it so good... oh, wait...
Just now I was watching the news from Washington, with the crazy car woman driving like a bat outta hell.
Well, one of newsmen there was already using his big camera. His photography was being used, I noticed,by all our media.
As he was running the cameras he was shouting to his co-cameraman. It was in ARABIC and I understood ONE word: "sayarit." They were, of course, going on about the crazy woman driving to hell in a handbasket.
I was so proud of myself for knowing SAYARIT...harking back 30 years ago when I learned that word IN THE KINGDOM...and still remembered it.
