Expel a kid for playing with a toy gun in his own yard. I’m sure people thought that was never going to happen as well.
Nah, this kind of expulsion was entirely predictable. All you have to do is look at the trends going back 20-30 years, and you will see a clear progression leading up to this.
There’s no progression towards people not consuming “violent” entertainment or video games. It’s what consumers demand, by a pretty wide margin. They can pass a law trying to wish it away, but their law can’t magically generate demand for some other form of entertainment that isn’t there.
If they passed such a law, most titles would just bomb. There would be a few exceptions of non-violent games that would still be good enough to achieve popularity, like Tetris, or the Sims, but those would be too rare to support the industry, so it would fail.
For your sake, and my son’s I hope you are correct. But I suspect there will be a movement by libs, feminists, marxists, socialists and communists to mould opinions and turn guns into the pariahs they all imagine them to be. You will have to turn in your friends with gun play video games. Parents who allow their children to use video games with gun play will be considered bad parents, child abusers who must be turned in to govt. officials.
People who believe that will never happen because the games are so popular now are young. There was a time in this country when open carry was allowed practically everywhere. I bet they couldn’t imagine a day like today. Just as you can’t imagine what’s coming if you keep believing it will never happen.

Well, I could say that people who believe it will happen are just old. You talk like we are still on a downward spiral, but gun laws, and the general public opinion on guns, have been rebounding back away from the low point for the last 15-20 years.
Sure, the liberals are more hysterical with their anti-gun brainwashing initiatives than ever, but that is a sign of desperation, because they are losing the bigger war. So they retreat to the schools and the media, because those are the bastions where they don’t have any competition, so they can’t lose. If they could convince adults that we need to ban guns, then they wouldn’t be so desperate to try to brainwash the next generation, but they know it’s a lost cause.
Now things could go back the other way, and when these mushheads grow up and can vote, they could pass some stupid laws. If they did, though, I still don’t see “gun free” video games being any kind of industry like you see today. We already have all of those types of games on the market, and they are pretty much niche titles that rarely break out and have a big popular hit.
Despite the recent hysteria about “violent video games”, that has been pretty consistent for the 30 plus years of the industry. Every few years, you’ll get a Pac-Man, or SimCity game that is fun and wholesome and makes a lot of money, while most of the similar games are nonstarters. Meanwhile, every year there are multiple new “hot” shooters, martials arts games, war games, etc, that are what people spend the most money on. It’s comparable to the movies, in that it is only every few years that there is a well crafted, Oscar winning drama that is considered a “must see” by the public, but every summer there are always multiple blockbusters that get the public to spend money for variations of the same old schlock repackaged. If you just tried to outlaw blockbusters, that wouldn’t make the dramas any more popular, it would just make the movie industry shrink considerably.
Take a look at how the libs work. They don’t face any enemy straight on. It’s always from behind or the side. They won’t start by banning them. They’ll start by shaming people who allow their “children” to use them. The adults will sit back and do nothing because they are just talking about banning children from playing the games. Then it will be anyone, child or adult who uses guns in video games has a mental deficiency. Do you use gun play or violent video games at home will be on questionnaires for jobs, doctors’ offices, Obamacare/insurance, and any official/govt. business. People will either lie or stop playing. The video game producers will be hounded into removing guns and reducing violence in the games. People who continue to play them will be labeled defectives.
This is not about which games are fun. It won’t matter to them how much fun they are. They won’t even bother to worry about producing entertaining games to replace them. That will be the industry’s problem. If the industry keeps making them, they will pay — special taxes for violence and gun use in games. They will make things a living hell for those who produce or enjoy that form of entertainment. This isn’t about giving people what they want. This is about control and how complacency gives way to pressure. They will apply vigorous pressure and those who complacently believe it will always be as it was will lose and come under their control.
Well, they’ve got much further in other countries with their agenda than they will ever get in America, and they can’t even hope to ban guns from video games in those countries, everyone still plays them just as much as we do. So, I think you’re giving the left way too much credit. You say it’s not about what games are fun, but that is exactly what drives the whole industry. You can’t legislate, or stigmatize people away from doing what they think is fun.
Prohibiting what the people really want hasn’t worked well;in the early 20th century it created organized crime to supply the public’s demand for alcohol,in our time organized crime fills the demand for recreational drugs and cheap cigarettes,in places where guns are banned people are murdered at higher rates than when guns were legal. When whole populations are disarmed, the government often murders in wholesale lots.
When I was in high school fireworks were much harder to find or buy and there were few public fireworks display ,certainly no private ones .Sure kids shot off a few bottle rockets or whatever. The fireworks were smuggled from free states to the others and often confiscated by police(who then enjoyed shooting them off!).
Now fireworks are much more widespread and easier to purchase despite the whining nannys who still want them banned because “someone will get hurt”.
The lieberals do not win when the people push back. The lieberals win too often because they are not strongly challenged.
Get right back in their faces and expose their lies and tricks.
