Why does the Navy rely on civilian police to protect the area where chief of naval operations lives ?

The White House is controlling the media and using the Washington Metro Police and the Park Service to tell the story...this is so they can recieve OBAMACARE funds for their shock troops

Can one imagine west point being unable to police its campus ....

the Navy Shore Patrol has apparently been called down like we saw in Benghazi so OBAMA can make a point about firearms...disguisting

Bring back the second amendment for our military and all who choose to carry a sidearm may do so.
Problem solved.
If someone can't be trusted with a weapon, he should not be on a military base.

I was a Navy Brat and lived at shipyards during my youth.

The bases were guarded by USMC contingents - NOBODY ever got on base who wasn’t supposed to be there. Much less got on base with unauthorized firearms.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the Navy Yard Commander is relieved of command. Even though security is manned by non-military personnel, it is HIS responsibility for security ...

Most of our military were disarmed in 1965.

the Navy Shore Patrol has apparently been called...

I am not certain what point you are attempting to make here. The SP's responding are merely naval watchstanding personnel with some minor apprehension and paperwork duties and training. They are not a "Standard" police-type force. Any SP's that responded to the situation were merely those individuals standing watch in the area and not any type of "special" group. A groundskeeper/watchman with a Duty Belt strapped on could have responded if called upon as well with similar capabilities.

MP's are the Military Police, their version of LEOs so your point for this thread is elusive at best.

It is cheaper to use civilian police and contractors rather than active military police.

Also, active military has been streched very thin by Afghanistan and Iraq.
