I still think that this fear of Jihad has something to do with Putins’ recent cultivation of Christianity within Russia. He knows that a robust Catholic church is the best defense against Islam (and queers), and hence is in the best interests of Russia.

The US and Russia are not going to be partners in anything as long as Putin is running the Kremlin. Putin is determined to be America's enemy no matter who is in charge in DC. Hating America and American exceptionalism is Putin's purpose in life.
