*sigh*
I hate to say it, but that’s the price you pay when you sign up for the armed forces.
Between the influence the military-weapons R&D-industrial triad has on Clowngress and the state of the world today, you are all but guaranteed to be shipped off to SOME useless backwater to fight SOMEbody’s pointless conflict.
Yes that’s an ugly thing to say. But this is the ARMY we’re talking about. Ya know, the people who kill other people and break things for a living. If you think you’re always going to go into a “Captain America” conflict, I’m sorry but you’re kidding yourself.
The point is that just as both natural rights and the crown had a demand on people's loyalty then, both the constitution and the president have a demand on the loyalty of the US military now. The constitution because it is the foundation of the country and the president through being the commander-in-chief. If Obama orders any attack without congressional authority he is (as I understand it) at the very limit of his legal authority. Does that attack embolden or aids the enemies of the US? And if it does, is it treason or simply an error? I know what people on these boards would likely say in answer to both questions, but you have to concede there are plenty of people who would argue differently. All of these actions could split America in general (and the military specifically) even more than it already is.
(That be old school. We new school)
Blast from the past, the George Zimmerman Trial.
I just finished reading David McCullough’s “1776” and there were some instances where British soldiers gave themselves up in trade for information (for example, while Boston was surrounded), but it was more for a good hot meal and to get away from the smallpox rather than to join the Patriots. The Brits had the same attitude then about Americans as our own Government Elites have now. That we’z jesta buncha stanky countrified rednecks.
Stanky countrified rednecks? Hey! I resemble that remark. You must have me confused.
I do too... that’s what they can’t understand is our pride in being stanky and countrified.
>> If the order does come, we do not mutiny, we just do.
The “I was just following orders” defense does not work and hasn’t worked since 1945. No one signed up to be Al Qaeda’s air force. We don’t need regime change in Syria. We need regime change in Washington DC.
