A few nights ago I looked out the window and saw a fox going by in my yard. I opened the window thinking I'd get a better look as it was running away, but as I did, the fox stopped and looked up at me. We stood there for a few moments, each of us just looking at one another - it seemed very odd, but it was awesome. The fox finally looked away and continued on where ever it was going. I then looked up into the sky and saw a shooting star. Neither event was particulary strange I guess - but, seemed appropriate at evening vespers.

Today I saw a falcon standing in the road. He didn't move or fly away as I approached and passed by. I saw no prey or roadkill nearby - just that falcon standing in the middle of the road, watching and unflinching as I passed within a few feet. It's something to remember when I offer my prayer of thanks this evening - something specific to give praise for when I say, 'Thanks Lord for another day on planet Earth'.
