For the first six weeks of training, my name was never called except for roll calls. I avoided taking a corner or edge position in all formations. I was never at the front or back of any line. I would go out of my way to avoid any contact with those of higher rank. If my bunkmate hadn't gone AWOL, I doubt even my own platoon sergeant would have realized I was one of his own guys.
If I hadn't gotten extremely sick toward the end, I might have remained invisible the entire time. Things can get boring in the service and this gave me something to do.

No, I agree with the author. A Black man should think that he will not be able to receive equal justice under the law because White prejudice does exist in many police departments.
That’s a fair point.
Not all troopers are Sherlock Holmes.
I have found (and pointed out) evidence which troopers had overlooked (including, in one case, another involved vehicle) which seriously changed the interpretation of events at an accident scene.
If the troopers couldn't be bothered to cross the road to look for evidence of vehicle impact, they did a crappy job of investigation.
If they thought the guy was out picking off deer with a handgun, their interpretation of events is shaky anyway. (While there are a rare few who might be able to jacklight deer with a handgun, they are a very small minority).
