Organization was the key.

Yes. The dems knew this and had a head start in organizing.
Indeed, Obama's only qualification for POTUS was as a community organizer.
It is no wonder that a corrupt IRS was enlisted by Obama to criminally thwart Tea Party attempts to politically organize to the same level as the Demmunists.

Well, we all knew what they were doing, but the corrupt, decrepit GOP-e was too busy backstabbing Sarah Palin to take notice.

The bottom line is ,he failed. 3.5 million fewer votes in a larger electorate. Voter enthusiasm so low that voter turnout dropped by at least 5 %. Only second term President elected with a smaller % and number of votes in over 100 years. His only vicories , like now with his diminished capital in the second term , come from what the Republicans hand him. Like Boehner and no select committee on Benghazi.

Organization was the key.

Perhaps, but I suspect that NSA and IRS databases helped. We are facing pure evil, and Obama's side has no respect for the law or for human decency.

Bullcrap, moron. I have provided articles about ORCA to my junior staffers about how NOT to do a systems launch. Both the McCain and Romney campaigns discarded Rove's successful GOTV approach from 2004 and just plain neglected the need for such. The Obama campaign instead took Rove's approach and expanded on it.

Try reading up on these stories instead of just vomiting up the GOP-E's lame excuses for their failures over the last two presidential campaigns.

I have read articles about how ORCA was done. As a systems professional, I can say it was done in about as stupidly as possible.

Do you think it is possible that some of the political operatives ostensibly working for Romney were actually working for Obama instead? To me that is the only logical explanation for what happened with ORCA. There is a sizeable portion of the political class that will go to the highest bidder, period. Anyone else notice how happy and relaxed Obama suddenly looked just a few days ahead of the election?

Great post, thanks.

I am currently trying to get access to a state Republican party voter database to support a local election. I am extremely unimpressed, and completely concur with your conclusion.

"The Zer0 campaign had access to NSA insider information IMHO."

Yep. This WaPo article is a basically a rehash of previously released info... designed to distract people from where the Obama campaign was really getting their key data from, IMHO.

Romney ran an arrogant campaign. Arrogance tends to be a deadly sin in systems implementation. I don't think any conspiracy is needed, I've seen plenty of bad systems implementations in my dad. To me, a smartphone was a horrible choice of interface for a poll list. Better to stick to paper and have a runner outside in a car with a portable scanner and wifi to transmit the pages to gain some speed in getting the info to the database. Lower tech, less sexy, but much more fail-safe and usable, and if the tech goes down, you can always just drive the lists to the local HQ, so you have built-in redundancy as well.

The GOP has to look at the RNC as the locus for a voter database that runs 24x7x365. It needs to be analogous to a consumer credit database, compiling information on voters in a central file, so that predictive models can be run against it for races from dog catcher to the presidential campaign. All GOP candidates could access the data, for a fee.

The RNC has such a database, it's called Voter Vault. I've used it as a volunteer for a GOP Congressional campaign.

But they have to go much further. They are still mired in the phone/direct mail mindset. They have to work on modernizing the channels they use and the methods to communicate and how they integrate data outside of voting lists.

Thanks for providing all this info and insight.

My bet is on your #2 — sabotage.
