Yes, Kroger seems to pay more to their staff. More importantly they have clean stores, staff who actually seem to care, they generally keep stuff in stock, the checkout process takes about 5 minutes vice 20 min plus, and the prices are not much more than that found at wally world. And as an added bonus when talking to the staff, you don’t need a translator into ebonics or spanish.
I have to admit, though, that if you have the time wally world is infinitely more entertaining to shop at. In a dark, cynical kind of way. And wally world sells ammo. Or so I hear because I don’t recall actually seeing any in stock.
If you like wally world, I suggest you shop there. I think wally world stinks and try to avoid it like the plague. For the dollar or two I save it just isn’t worth my time and the trip to a second store to buy what wally world didn’t have in stock.
No Kroger in DC? I guess that’s just one more reason why the beltway sucks.
Don’t hold your breath too long. Kroger also owns the following chains:
Baker’s Supermarkets
City Market
Dillons Food Stores
Fry’s Food & Drug
Gerbes Super Markets
Jay C
King Soopers
Kroger
Lily’s
Owen’s
Pay Less Super Markets
QFC
Ralphs
Scott’s
Smith’s
Fred Meyer
Food 4 Less
Foods Co.
Ruler Foods
Kwik Shop (
Loaf ‘N Jug (
Quik Stop
Smith’s Express
Tom Thumb Food Stores
Turkey Hill Minit Markets
They’re also in the process of buying Harris Teeter.
Hmmm, no Krogers in DC.
Well, there are none around me either. I’d have to drive to Fuquay Varina, Apex, Garner or Cary to shop at a Krogers.
In NC that’s an hour away and a whole different planet.
I’ve got 2 WM Supper Centers, 1 Sams Club, 1 BJ’s, 1 Harris Teeter, and 5 Food Lions all within 5 miles of me.
I think Harris Teeter is connected to Krogers somehow - and I’m admit it’s the nicest of the bunch.
Harris Teeter just got bought out by Kroger. I agree that they are the nicest of the bunch but a bit pricey.
Kroger is opening up stores that they call “Kroger Marketplace.” They’re intended to compete more directly with wally-world and Target. One interesting tweak is that some offer “little clinics” which are PA/nurse practitioner staffed clinics.
Of that entire list, Harris Teeter is about the only one I’ve ever seen or heard of - and there isn’t a Harris Teeter anywhere around here either. And the 50 mile radius I spoke of encompasses 3 states.
