I read an FReeper about the Marissa Alexander incident a few days ago.
It seems that while she did have a 'restraining order', she tried to use "Stand Your Ground" defense .
She locked hersself in the bathrroom , and then charged out of the house
She went out to her car , got a pistol out of the car, and then re-entered her house to confront her "X" ,
There she discharged a round , barely missing his head.
The bullet went through a wall , and stopped in the adjoining room ceiling.
Then she tried to impose "Stand You Ground " ,but the courts decision was that once she was out of the house,
she was no longer 'in danger' and thus she invalidated the "Stand Your Ground" defense .
Now , in the eyes of the law , by using "deadly physical force" , she was the 'perp', rather than the 'victim'.
Also , add to that failure of SYG defense, that Florida State law "Mandates A 20-30 Year Sentance " when a handgun is used in the commission of a crime ; hence the 20 year sentance imposed.
The fault here is the FLORIDA MANDATORY SENTANCE, .. not the prosecutor. The judge is allowed NO DISCRETION !
Apparently , this is one of the reasons why NAACP is so opposed to "Stand Your Ground " Laws.
Obviously , this case is the exception ,.. rather than the rule .
But I agree , Angela Corey is a piece of work !
No kidding!
Her smile creeped my husband and me out during her post-verdict “acceptance speech.” Greta was totally PO’d last night b/c apparently Corey feels the jury made the wrong decision, and said so on tv.
She’’l be working for Holder in no time.
The black dress made her look 250-300 lbs. The smile reminded me of Nancy. Almost needed a bucket by the TV.
The whole production was disgusting.
She was elected, not selected. Even worse, she was automatically returned to office in 2012 without facing the voters because no one ran against her.
Corey is an elected official.
Judge Nelson was appointed by Jeb Bush, however.
I also found her post-verdict peculiar. To compare it to winning an Academy Award is right on.
Her initial presser ‘justice for Trayvon’ statement has stuck in my craw since the second she said it.
or head of the EEOC.
revealed - angela corey is alan grayson in drag, on his knees.
i mean they have about equal legal intelligence. equal logical capabilities.
Corey was elected prosecutor in Jacksonville area. However, she was appointed by Rick Scott as Special Prosecutor for the Zimmerman case, which wasn’t in her area. It seems confusing, but those are completely different jobs.
I was wondering about her career end. Who could remove her TODAY? The governor? He was the one that appointed her if I’m not mistaken. I know the courts will have their day soon, but she needs to be REMOVED right now and the guy she fired for whisleblowing should be reinstated with a large bank account. Then NBC should write a large check to Zimmerman. Holder should be removed from office toot suite. These things should happen right now, ASAP.
That’s the face that launched a thousand shrimp!
Thanks, you’re correct.
Bump.
You can’t do a thing about that kind of deep narcissism.
They are imbued with a certainty of their self righteousness.
Which is why she'll probably get promoted to assistant attorney general of the US.
