Just one of the reasons my girls are American Heritage Girls.
90+ girl scouts? I didn’t know they had any that old.
Good move! We made the jump to AHG a couple of years ago when our parish started a troop. It’s been awesome. But ... our troop has been associated with our parish Boy Scouts troop, but AHG has now severed those ties. It’ll be interesting to ses how our troops handle that.
Can only speak about BSA. Can't recite chapter verse, but it is generally known that BSA volunteers, in uniform, are not to participate in overt political events. Of course, the rub comes in where do you draw the line between a political event and a civic event, e.g., a few scouters and scouts marched in the gay pride parade in Salt Lake City on 4/25/2013. They were warned in advance by the professionals in the Great Salt Lake Council not to march in uniform. Some did anyway. They were chastized by the council scout executive with a letter of reprimand.
But then, I remember some Boy Scouts, in uniform, participating in the opening of a Democrat convention, and getting booed by the delegates, so I could be wrong.
8/14/2000 The 2000 Democratic National Convention was held in the Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA. The Los Angeles Area Council of the BSA sent a half-dozen Eagle Scouts and an adult leader to the event at the request of Democrat organizers to conduct a flag ceremony for the opening of the convention. Once on the stage the scouts were booed and jeered by the delegates who were expressing their anger with BSAs exclusive membership policy. This occurred a little over 1 month after the SCOTUS ruled on the Dale case in favor of BSA, 5-4.
Wonder where the fathers were . . . .
