Megan McArdle is hardly a leftist. Don’t get your hopes up about the left waking up.

They also supervised the selections that were carried out regularly at the roll calls and in the barracks. The purpose was to weed out excess or unnecessary people who were non-productive. The term used by the Nazi doctors for these people was
life unworthy of life. http://holocaust.umd.umich.edu/lul/Readings/Reading%2011B.pdf.

As far as I’m concerned if they don’t figure out another way to support themselves, they can lie down and die!!

"When Work Disappears: What do we do with people whose livelihoods are destroyed?"
We know what the debt-sucking, bipartisan, political regulator folks about them. Cut the big spending on the political chattering class now! Let 'em learn a thing or two.

"But I have started worrying about what's taking place at the bottom of the economy."
As have many who are living high on the pile of foreign debt (domestic debt being little more than revenues from recirculating debt). That's why they are so courageously trying to turn subgroups against each other with sponsored propaganda, implementing policies for universal surveillance, more armed police in civil services and writing even more regulations against new peasant business starts and property rights.
Better change some of those attitudes about "Luddites." Tomorrow belongs to low-techs, and tomorrow comes sooner than expected.

"In much of the industrial world, it seems to be increasingly difficult for people to earn a decent living without a fairly elite set of skills--or an elite set of credentials that mimic skills, like a BA in English Literature from an Ivy League institution."
Behold the machinist of the 21st Century, related to a government-connected investor.

If American workers were willing to work for market costs, not expecting some magical bonus just for being American, the jobs would stay here. But Americans insist on safe workplaces as well as higher wages, without providing proportionally more productivity. Why should an employer be expected to subsidize them? Why should a, say German, consumer be expected to pay extra when they can get a better value elsewhere??? F YOU man, I do NOT want or expect or deserve to be paid a mere $12 an hour for a college degreed engineering profession.
Let's open the borders for $6 an hour factory workers and let the borders open to all imports without tarriffs.
I do not appreciate being emailed a lengthy bitchy email stream.
Say it in public in the forum where everyone can deservedly tear apart your "it's only worth what it is worth to the corporations".
