People blowing on their coffee, spreading a chemical even more addictive than nicotine -- caffeine! -- into the air, right into the lungs of the children(!!!)

LOL!!

” I never liked Starbucks coffee, too strong tasting and a ripoff pricewise.”

Worst chain coffee I ever tasted.

“Good on banning smoking. Now let’s hope the wingnuts don’t win a ban on guns.”

Ban according to my preferences! Says every dictator in history. Somethimes I think you are purposefully trying to be a parody.

“Private property. The owner (lessee) of the private property wishes to mandate people stand on their heads, that’s their right.”

I agree, except that if I wanted to start a coffee shop that allowed smoking, then I would not be legally able to do so. As a result, there is no such thing as private property rights in the vast majority of the states at this time, hence the government can ban anything or mandate anything.

Yeah, but, I do take exception with one thing: there have recently, in my area (at least) been a phenomenon in the past few years of "hookah bars." Mostly catering to college-age and 20 something kids...for some reason, they can manage to get around the universal indoor smoking ban that exists in Maryland.

Although I'm not a fan of hookah, I've eaten in a couple of them (I do like middle-eastern food). The point: these are not only bars, they are restaurants.

Strange, huh?

“They included e-cigs in the ban so if the e-cig lobby was involved they failed.”

Which shows you how utterly stupid these people really are! They ban one product that emits water vapor (steam) while profiting off of heating water to the point that it creates steam.

My local Starbucks will see a significant drop in business if they implement this policy.

It’s a private business, they can ban smoking if it benefits them.

The law enforcers must be afraid of getting beheaded! Not shocking really, there is no longer a consistency of laws, so in reality anything goes, that the tyrannical wants! Kind of like the poster of this thread begging to ban to his preferences....

“It’s a private business, they can ban smoking if it benefits them.”

True, however is a competitor free to open up a coffee shop that caters to smokers and allows them to smoke inside? If not, then are they not being shielded from their risks by the governing elites?

If favored entities receive sheilding from the government at the expense of other entities, then what do we have?

“...what grounds do they have to stand on?”

Coffee grounds obviously. (I will not be here all week, I will sneak out the back door.)

I am a non-smoker, and I give Starbucks kudos for their earlier “neutral” stance on the Second Amendment. But I am wondering: How is Starbucks going to enforce this??

Most Starbucks are located in rented space in privately-owned strip malls or urban downtown districts. Once you step outside of their front door, you are on either public sidewalk, or the common “public” sidewalk area of the privately-owned strip mall - where Starbucks would have no jurisdiction (unless they have some sort of clause in their lease which gives them such jurisdiction outside in front of their own store - which I doubt).

Admittedly, some cities and private malls already have their own laws, or corporate policies, stating that you cannot smoke outside of any business. However, IF no such law or regulation exists (which I assume includes a huge percentage of Starbucks locations), I ask again - how are they going to enforce this corporate policy at their locales where smoking within 25 feet outside of their cafe’ is otherwise allowed?? Smoking tobacco IS a legal activity after all (for now, anyway!!).

In addition, many businesses in strip malls are small in size, and close together, hence many other businesses are frequently located less than 25 feet away from the door of any given Starbucks. What if THOSE businesses say that it is OK for THEIR customers to smoke in front of THEIR businesses - within 25 feet of Starbucks?? How is Starbucks going to enforce their policy in that case??

What are the exceptions to their policy?? This article makes it sound like there are none.

Is Starbucks going to call the local police, and ask the police enforce their CORPORATE policy, when there is no corresponding municipal law on the books?? Sure!! That’ll work!!

Are they going to send out one of their barristas, complete with brightly-colored hair and body piercings, to enforce the law?? What are they going to do when someone says “no”, assuming it is otherwise their legal right to do so??

Now, if Starbucks actually owns the building and the land that their cafe’ sits upon, that is one thing. In that case it is their private property, and they can enact whatever policies they see fit, just like they are free to do with customers who are sitting inside their cafes. However, I would assume that such is not the case with most Starbucks.

We don't buy from Starbucks anymore, because of their corporate-level support of homo “marriage”. But I may have to show up at my local Starbucks in the near future, with a bucket of popcorn, sit outside on a bench, and watch the wacky fun as they try to enforce this in the places where they otherwise have no jurisdiction!!

The is what arrogant liberalism does, if it is left unchecked.

But then, you don’t have to frequent their den if you smoke or own a gun .... you are within your rights!

Screw Starbucks and their filthy dirt tasting coffee.

Screw the anti-smoking NAZIs hypocrites.

We really need to start minding our own bee’s wax in this country.

Yeah I am...

The outright discrimination and hypocrisy is infuriating me.
Can’t smoke in a bar but you can drink alcohol until you’re pickled and then get in the car and kill someone.

That is socially acceptable I guess...

The anti-smoking SNOBS with their little coughs and evil eyes as they walk by on the way to the saloons and white wine spritzers...

Just leave us alone!

FM ALL!

It is for just this moment.

So fed up with the political and Patriotic BS going on.

Benghazi, DOJ spying on AP, Rosen, Fox, the IRS censoring TEA Party and other Conservative groups etc.

The failure of the media to do their job, instead they don knee pads.

The intellectual laziness and dishonesty by over 50% of the American people courtesy, again, of the Leftists and public skools.

I just get worried.
