How do we overcome that mentality?”

Yes, this is a very serious question and I wish I knew the answer. But it’s more than mentality. It’s a pervasive and growing evil that we have allowed to overtake us as a nation.

Growing up my life and opinions on issues were formed and controlled by the teaching of my parents, my school teacher, our church minister and my Sunday School teacher. All my friends had parents just like mine and we all went to the same school and church. Expectations were quite clear and consequences for not following them were swift and sometimes physically painful. Until I was almost a teenager I really didn’t know anyone who lived more than ten miles from our farmhouse except for the man who picked up the milk each day, the man who came to clean out our cistern once a year and the lady who came to clean once every two weeks. The only Black person I had ever seen or talked to during the first twelve years of my life was our cleaning lady. I did travel all over the world but by books. We had no TV or any electronic devices and the eight party crank wall phone was rarely used except to listen in on other people’s conversations. But it wasn’t until the last ten years, almost fifty years later, that I finally realized and appreciated how wonderful my life really was.

In today’s society one’s life and opinions are formed by what we see on TV, read and watch on the Internet and the intervention of government into every phase of our life, rather than by parents and those in church.

We have evolved to where there is no middle, nothing seems sacred any more, there is a general absence of moral grounding, conscience, and respect. I don’t know that we can overcome the current mentality and not because there are not enough good people to make it happen, but it is coming so fast and on so many fronts all at once that it simply becomes physically and mentally overwhelming.

Certainly having more Congressional leaders like Cruz, Scott and Lee will help set the tone at the top, as would having a Conservative spiritual President. Everyone at all levels must be dedicated to creating an environment where people can prosper and do well on their own with very minimal temporary government intervention. More importantly we must get back to being One Nation Under God.

Sadly I don’t see either of these happening to any great extent during my remaining lifetime. We certainly must never give up or give in but continue to pray without ceasing and Bloom Where we are Planted. You just never know who may be watching what you do or listening to what you say.

"hard to believe"

When I was growing up fifty years ago, being a Democrat mostly meant supporting unions and civil rights. Since the party took a hard left turn after the sixties, many of its members have decided to go big on class warfare and stealing as much money from producers as possible. The correct name of the Democrat Party should be the Taker Party or the Thief Party. Because most of them are thieves.

Back in the day, Madison would have shot Jackson Lee.

Back in the day, Jefferson would not have had Jackson Lee as a slave. She is just too dumb.

Communist Sheila Jackson Lee, a great example of just how stupid voters are!

Boy, isn't that the truth.I think parents today would rather be their kids friend than a parent. My dad, now 83, didn't become a great friend until I was in my 30's.

IMHO, this "everybody wins, everybody gets a trophy" world is detrimental to their upbringing.

How can kids get better & overcome if they're never allowed to fail?
